Hi.The Mitsubishi HD 1000U 720p is an excellent projector for the money.Another one to consider is the Optoma HD70 DLP 720p for about $930.00.Also the Infocus LP 340B looks like a good buy at $799.00

Check out the specifications below to compare the 3 projectors

There are many other factors involved when buying a projector for your home entertainment needs. DLPs are the newest in advancements for these devices and as DLP technology is for some reason cheaper then LCD the prices have come a long way from being almost 3500 dollars to now 650 for tigerdirects cheapest projector. Specs are important as you wanty to stay ahead of technology but also realize the huge downfalls of owning a projector as follows, still a very large portion of these have high end inputs only such as HDMI and XVGA although there are adapters for this and if you have a nice PC then your even better off (can anyone say dvr tuner card all in one solution :) ) Now for your most dreaded problem; even though companies have been getting very good at making projector bulbs easy and safe to replace they are still insanely expensive, usually starting at about 50 dollars a pop and up to 150 dollars a pop. If you invest 800 dollars on a projector and use it often ( I know I would ) then expect to reach that 1000 limit within a year or two. In any event do your shopping and ask questions these things can be a pain to maintain but they offer the biggest best experiance for movie buffs and those who are ready for the advent of HD.

This link shows top selling home theater projectors divided into 3 groups: 480p, 720p and 1080p.

The Mitsubishi or the Optoma are both great. If you're jumping from an old 32" CRT or even a 50" big screen, it's a huge difference. You won't want to ever go back to anything smaller.
