I have seen a lot of that. I used to be commssioner for the local soccer league and you would be surprised at the parent that would shove their kids out of the car and take off without even checking to see if the kid got to practice or with his/her coach, with a field with 800 kids and adults, just out the door and gone, and some were even more negligent about picking them up, we finally had to pass a rule stating if your were more than a half hour late you would get to pick you child up at the police department.
I think there is very little common sense anymore, I really don't know how we as a society have managed to take something as rearing a child and make it so trival to some of these people. When my kids were growing up we wanted to know who they were with and if I or my wife didn't know the parents of that child, they didn't go anywhere with them, no sleep overs, movies, whatever. They could come with us, or we got aquainted with the parents, period, and no exception.

They claimed that they could see into the hotel room from where they were sitting, but obviously they were not watching close enough. It only takes a second for a child to open a door and disappear. Someone may have seen the parents leave the room or heard them talking about leaving the children alone and knocked on the door claiming to work at the hotel. After what happened in Aruba with that girl disappearing I can't believe any parent would leave a small child alone.

2-4 years old? That is definitely crazy.
8-9? Maybe not such a big deal. I ran all over the place by myself when I was 8. Some kids are more mature than others, though. You take your chances letting your kids run about without supervision, regardless of their age, but at some point you have to teach them to take care of themselves. For poor parents like mine working two jobs a day to survive, there are not always better options. For someone who can afford to vacation in Portugal, however...

Once you become a parent, it is your responsibility to put your children's care and needs ahead of your own. Parents like that are selfish, and whether they are kicking their own arses or not, it should never be an option to walk away from your young children under any circumstances, unless they are in the care of someone who you would trust with YOUR life. All parents need down time, but for god's sake, hire a sitter!
I was a single mom, and I worked my tail off to make sure my son was always with someone who cared for him, and cared for him well, if I couldn't. So I just don't buy any rational to abandon your child in such a way.

I completely agree with you! I think that some parents today think that since their child knows how to use a cell phone or a computer that they are responsible enough to be left on their own. It just baffles me to learn about some of the things some parents are doing, it goes back to the whole thing that you need a license to drive a car, to get married even to catch a fish, but they let any yahoo with reproductive possibilities be a parent. scary.

i'm a be certain and that i believe you. Alot of mothers and fathers make those undesirable possibilities to make their newborn happy or to maintain them quiet without a 2d concept to their well being. My sister's son lives with my mom and is morbidly obese. He has lived with my mom in view that beginning. he's 5 years previous and is ninety seven pounds. he's not potty experienced, has a mentality of a 2 12 months previous, very violent, foul-mouthed,and eats non-quit. I say something each and every of the time and my mom ignores me. My sister desires to take him removed from them yet my dad has a heart situation and would experience responsible. My teenagers have continuously been petite and prefer healthful meals purely like I do. i did not choose my teenagers to be obese and that i nonetheless do not. My teenagers have on no account lived with my mothers and fathers and don't omit there in any respect.

I have a 10 year old daughter and she goes no where without me or another adult that I know. Todays society is sick. You cant trust anyone anymore. I also used to ride my bike to my friends house when I was 8 or 9 but that was 20 years ago. Alot has changed.

I totally know what you mean!!! I'm 17 and live in a nice neighborhood but my mom still insists i dont go running by myself when its dusky. I didnt stay home alone with my twin sister till we were like 12. I do notice little kids alone everywhere and it makes me wonder what are there parents thinking!!! because a 7,8 year old isnt near mature or old enough be alone everywhere, like at the mall or something.

I agree, (some) parents these days do NOT keep a good enough eye on their kids. Everyone in this day and age has the "it wont happen to me" syndrom. Nobody takes any responsibility these days. and frankly it's discusting!

my opinion is that people make mistakes, sometimes very very big ones and those people will be paying for those mistakes for a long time, in ways that most of us cannot comprehend. The farthest I let my daughter go alone at age 9 is to the "swing park" that is behind our house, I can still see her.
