No not really, but it would help to have some school. You should take at least accounting, marketing, and business management, also a communication class would be good.
If your not already a cosmetologist, I suggest that also, because you should know the business and how everything is done.

A hair salon owner usually has a cosmetology license. Having some business acumen is necessary to success.

In most states you need a cosmetology liscence and you can find out by going to your secretary of states website and looking up the requirements for salon owners.

As long as you have graduated with a comsmetology license you are fine. If you can afford it, taking a business course will be handy too.

Most hair salon owners I know (I know a crapload) all have their doctorate degrees (8-10 years of college)

So honey, get to those books right away!

You're going to be doing ALOT of studying. I can help you with your dissertation if you truly decide to do this.

I don't think you *need* a degree, but taking business courses wouldn't hurt.
