Has anyone else thought what would be happening with the "maddie" case if it was a paid nanny or childminder/babysitter that has gone off so far away for a meal in peace!?

THANK YOU FOR ACKNOWLEDGING THAT! I thought the same thing when I heard it on the news! I barely step outside to take the dog potty, much less leave my child alone in a freakin hotel while I go eat dinner! WTF

A paid child care worker is paid for doing just that- taking care of the child.

They enter into a contract with the child's primary carers. Their only job is the well being of the child they are being paid to look after.

It is no different to taking a mechanic to court if he fails to repair your car properly and you are hurt in an accident.

I am not saying that the parents didn't fail in their duty but all the focusing on them detracts from the real issue.

That is that molesters walk amongst us( and certainly in Portugal if the medias are to be believed) with complete freedom and lack of fear.

Would you take your kids to Portugal now that you know that?

Or would you take the calculated risk that you could protect your children at all times?

Children are often snatched from their beds whilst their parents and siblings sleep- you just don't read about it too often.

I just heard about that case, I completely agree with you. I hope those parents are being investigated by child protective services. They will feel guilty for the rest of their life, and I think they deserve to! A parent's number 1 job is to protect their child, because they didn't do that, that little girl is going to be raped and tortured on a daily basis (if as the reports are saying, she was snatched by a child prostitution ring).

To answer your question, yes - any parent would take their child caregiver to court over that. Those parents should be taken to court before they are allowed to continue raising their other kids.

ok lets get this right
so far the portugese police and the portugese people have been blamed our govt have now been lobbied by a relative the world press are involved there are appeal funds
sponsored walks
lawyers priests
we all feel sad
BUT REMEMBER 1 THING
IF THE PARENTS HAD BEEN WITH THAT CHILD WE WOULD NOT BE DISCUSSING THIS NOW.
think what you like about me but through THEIR neglect a baby has gone missing.
As i have said before if this was a single mum from a council estate the other 2 kids would have been taken from her and she would have been hated and hounded by every one on this planet including the media.

If it was a childminder then yes i would sue them...they are PAID to care for the chidlren and keep them well supervised. They were not doing there job and a tragedy resulted. They shouldnt be allowed to look after children!

In my job I take the highest care and security possible-after all they are not my kids!

Of course I would!

I have no doubt the hotel would also be criticised and slated to high heaven if the McCanns had been using the room listening service where staff patrol the corriders listening out for crying childrens, and the abduction had happened there.

But lets just hope the little girl is ok.

Yes they would have been prosecuted and rightly so. The press have been very kind to Maddies parents in not attatching any blame to them what so ever I do not believe that a single mum, or lower class of parent would have got off so lightly.

You dont EVER leave a young child home alone.
I sometimes worry even when my 15 yr old son is left to babysit my 2-yr old for more than an hour. Toddlers can be a handful and get into the darndest things.

Times have changed........in the not too distant past parents would nip to the shops, front door never locked, jeez the kids went out all by themselves even!
Of course that was long before paedophiles were invented!
The world hasn't changed much believe it or not; just the perception of it with a little help from global media.
Okay the parents done something that many wouldn't, [but lots do] but let's wait and see if their child is alive or dead before we start crucifying them.
There will be plenty of time for the sanctimonious among you [of which there seem to be many] to have your much needed witch hunt.

my first thought was how can you leave your children alone in a hotel room on there own while you have a meal is beyond me, and it makes me wonder how many times that holiday they left those children alone
