A sort of crowd swirling, jumping around swaying, head-banging group dance. Usually done right in front of the stage at Metal gigs. Hence the term 'Mosh pit'

It is a condition in Rock music appreciation where a gap opens up spontaneously in the front of the crowd and the people in this hole throw themselves at each other. It looks like they are fighting, but they are not. It is rather dangerous, bones have been broken in these mosh pits, a lot of bands will stop playing if one of these pits opens up. Jumping up, throwing your devil fist in the air and just generally dancing crazily to rock/ metal music.
