Because they spend too much time listening to the bull **** the media feeds them instead of actually finding out the facts themselves.
Because the war has lasted longer than a season of American Idol.
Because they've forgotten about all the many atrocities that have been committed against America
Because they've forgotten why we've went to war.
Because it seems to be the popular choice.
Because they don't know any American troops, haven't actually spoken to them about how they wanna get the job done, how their friends have died, and if we pull out now, they've died in vain.

What is right is not always popular;
and what is popular is not always right.
Just because a lot of uninformed people who are easily fooled by what they see on TV (on newsbreaks between American Idle and America's Next Flop Model), who can't even pick out where France or India are located on a map say they're against the war, doesn't make it the RIGHT answer. The right answer is to look at the long-term impacts of any actions we might take; we're there now, like it or not. Are you so foolish as to believe that somehow everything that's been going on there the last four years (in reality, the last few thousand years) will suddenly cease when Americans suddenly leave? Al Qaeda will go away, Iran will stop making an international pariah of itself, Sunnis and Shia will suddenly get along after more than a thousand years' history of killing each other... yeah. Right. Go back to watching your brain-rotting rubbish on TV if you really and truly are thick enough to believe that, and leave the running of reality and the shaping of history to those who are actually in touch with reality and informed of history.
So-called popularity is not a good enough reason to sentence millions of people to death; nor is the common will of the American people to put a premature end to this war so that they can go back to putting their heads in the sand thinking everything in the world is peachy, until the next 9-11 comes along.

70% against the war???? Hum...Don't believe that is right...lol I am sitting 7 minutes from a military installation and that is not what the troops here say...and guess what we are Americans too and we should be polled also...
What people need to realize is while they sit at their computer and say what they please...Without fear....
Next time a poll is taken why don't they ask the people who are carrying that green card and showing up to work everyday ready to run their 5 miles and their 50 push-ups and 75 sit-ups and taking the heat for all the crap in the media cause, guess what, when you say military you are talking about Americans....I just hearing everybody fighting this war with their mouth...If you have an idea on how to keep us safe here...then say so, do ya have a better idea by all means let it be known..I am so tired of the "get us out of Iraq" that I could scream.... Unless you have a closet of BDU's or ACU's you are not a us...lol

To answer your question, the American people are against the war in Iraq because the American people are always against wars. That doesn't make them right, in fact it makes them peace-loving lemmings. I'd love to be a peace-loving lemming, but fact is the world is not like that. It's easy to believe that living in the US, but failure to act is going to encourage more embassy bombings and terrorist attacks.
Look how Vietnam ended, not the pictures of soldiers returning home, but what happened to the Vietnamese, and ask yourself, do you really want to see that happen again?

initially, the Bush administration informed the yank public that the warfare became into mandatory to combat terrorism, on the heels of the destruction of the long island international commerce middle on 9/11. on the time, to declare against the warfare became into considered treasonous, and political suicide. although, as a results of newly-chanced on circumstances surrounding the reasons for the warfare; besides because of the fact the prolonged occupation costing billions of tax payer money, besides as destroying the lives of yank families, as a results of youthful sevice human beings being killed or injured in Iraq; mny human beings choose the U. Maybe they want to see genocide like we saw after leaving Viet Nam. Also because war always gets more unpopular the longer it goes on. Especially when you have spineless Congressmen who vote to go to war then turn their backs on our troops and our Commander in Chief. Then they call it HIS war. These are the "leaders" the people choose to follow. By the way these are the same people who made William Hung a household name. The same people who sit in the audience chanting Jerry! Jerry! Jerry! when people are beating the crap out of each other on stage. Kind of makes you think doesn't it?

No, I haven't noticed the Republicans shaking at all.
As for your question about 70% of Americans being against the war, you must also understand that the vast majority of Americans know absolutely nothing about international politics, diplomatic and trade agreements, or how their cushy life at the mall is effected by global concerns. All they see is the daily news updating the body count.
Fortunately, it is the President, his cabinet, and his generals that run the show when it comes to war and national security related issues, not the uninformed American public.

Have you noticed how the Bush Administration is now starting to use the "domino theory" in the Middle East as a reason for not leaving Iraq? That's the same thing the Johnson Administration did during the Vietnam war. It was paranoia then, and it's paranoia now.

The war ending like Vietnam is a bad thing. That ending was caused by Liberal pressure. We all should be shaking if Dem's take office.
