My understanding is that micro-evolution is ok by believers, because it still leaves the possibility of god creating adam and eve and all the animals . Once macro-evolution is proven, won't that finally show that god didn't create everything at once, and basically destroy the god of the bible? Is that why believers are so frightened of evolution?

It's a special kind of believer that's troubled by this. Note the official Catholic church position from Pope JPII himself is that evolution is a fact. The inerrantists of the United States are unique not only in their utter ignorance of the origins of species, but also of the origins and assemblage of the scriptures and most of their meaning. They simply don't know the difference between a fictional narrative created to communicate a theological principle and a historical account, and their whole sense of security hinges on the idea of having a literal god-breathed handbook for the universe. They confuse "inspiration" with "dictation", fearing I suppose that any other position might lead to thinking, or sex, or possibly worse, dancing.

Because "macro-evolution" has never been proven and never will be proven. Creationists admit that so-called "micro-evolution" (which isn't really evolution at all, but only variation within a kind) exists, but macro-evolution would have us believe that change between kinds is possible. It isn't. There is a "black box" around each "kind" (not "species") outside of which change is impossible. The Bible says that plants and animals will only "bring forth after their 'kind'", and that's all that's ever been observed throughout all history.
Some people claim that since humans can put animal genes into humans and human genes into animals, that proves macro-evolution to be true. NO - that only proves that it takes intelligence to create such a change - which would actually be evidence for Creation, not evolution. No such change would ever occur in nature.

Macro-evolution has been observed.

The basic difference between micro and macro evolution is whether new species are formed. The basic distinguisher of a new species is whether or not they are sexually viable. If two animals can have fertile offsping, they are the same species. If not, they are different species.

Speciation in the lab and in nature have been observed. So, macro-evolution has been observed. You can't get much better "proof" of something than direct observation.

I'm Catholic, and evolution is not the bugaboo in my church that it is to those of more fundamentalistic faiths. So no, I can't say that evolution -- macro or micro -- will do much to rattle my beliefs one way or the other. However we got here from there, God is still in charge and in control.

Incidentally, I resent the accusation that all Christians are unintelligent and uneducated. I earned my Master's Degree in English with straight A's, and my IQ is 155. Since it only takes one exception to disprove a generalization, that shoots your fallacy in the foot.

No. Evolution does not disprove God.

Evolution has disproved literal Biblical Creation. Macro-evolution is just a stall tactic to prevent admission of being wrong.

Macro-evolution has been observed. They just keep moving the goal posts.

It used to be, a different species. That's happened many times now. Now it's, a different 'type'. So, it doesn't matter if a plant evolves with a different number of chromosomes then it's predecessor, now it needs to change from a flower into a Venus Fly-trap.

The whole debate is hilarious. 'Macro-evolution' is nothing more than 'micro-evolution' stacked and stacked and stacked over many generations. Eventually, the cumulative changes lead inevitably to speciation.

No one is putting nails in God's casket.

Genesis implies that God has a plan for the world.

Is evolution the manifestation of God's plan? I think it might be.

I don't really expect to understand every detail of that plan. That would imply that I am the equal of God, and I am not.

Faith allows me to believe in God and creation without a complete, detailed personal, explanation from God.

Macro-evolution has been shown to be a fact. However it will never be proven.
Neither will gravity. You can never "prove" something in Science. Ever.
But something can be a fact and a theory at the same time.
I know that's hard for a lot of christians to understand, what with thier terrible education and low IQ's and all but that's how the real world works.
