Slow, static type stretching where you hold the stretch for 10-15 seconds is best. Also an adequate warm up like jumping jacks, running or running in place, slow, easy shadow boxing to warm your muscles and lubricate your joints first before stretching is important. WARM MUSCLES STRETCH BETTER THAN COLD MUSCLES. Isolate the muscle groups and stretch them first individually before stretching them collectively. Yoga is much like this in some ways so check out a few books and the Internet on yoga and slow static stretching. Also the lower back is an area that a lot of people neglect in their stretching which has a big impact on how flexible you are. Equally important is a brief after work out stretch routine as well as drinking water. If you do a little looking and reading on those two things I mention above you should find a wealth of information. Go watch a karate class or two -get there early and watch them stretch. Last time I checked even the high priced diploma mills didn't charge to watch a class.

I bought some Yoga Zone DVDs. At first the stuff was near impossible but I kept with it and now can do the program with only moderate difficulty.

Yoga Zone for flexibility is the best one I own.

stretch in every direction fine what exercises work for u not someone else. when you stretch breathe out and dont try to stretch limit right away. warm up good do slow powerful motions to build up heat. when u stretch down stiffen for 5 seconds then relax this keeps you from muscle inflammation. if you do a day on hard stretching let ur body heal next day work on something
else.

I understand your basic question, but what part of your body are you talking about?

There are specific stretching/range of motion exercises for each part of your body. Knowing which part you need help with will help.

Providing a list of every possible exercise for every part of the body is not reasonable here.

There are different basic stretching exercises for different parts of your body.

Many of them involve the process of stretching tendons. This takes time and discomfort.

Just keep doing it.
Stretch any part of the body that you still think is stiff.
