My husband and I have gone through some difficulties lately. I have been extremely busy earning a bachelor's degree, raising children and working a full time job. I have graduated and I want to say thank you to him in style. I am finacially comfortable to not rich, so suggestions should not be of Donald Trump magnitude.

How about a weekend away in a nearby town in a nice hotel? I'm sure he'd like that. Go get a nice dinner somewhere and go to a movie or go sightseeing. >L

Something interesting I tried when things got down in the dumps... be a romantic bandit. This may seem a little silly, but I'll explain.

If you can get your friends in on the act, it can be a lot of fun. Make sure you guys have a clear weekend to do this though. Go to his work dressed up, well like a bandit and steal him away for a weekend of fun and 'play time.'

I would recommend the ol' candles and wine set up. Your friends come into play with setting up the actual scene (maybe with a bit of music playing when you enter?)

You guys can have a romantic dinner in a cabin, bed and breakfast or whatever. Just spend the night or the whole weekend while he plays "captive."

I've found a little role play in romance to be fun and it spices things up. You can mix it up however you want, but my friends and I have had fun times planning this particular date with our signifigant others.

How about this..If your close to where you two met, why not plan something that involves going there, or something that reminds him of how you two met.? Ultimately you just being there and telling him how much you love and appreciate him will mean so very much to him. How about a quiet dinner, cook something he loves, a nice dessert, good wine, soft music, enjoyable conversation and the best love making he can ever imagine. But really, hearing you say "thank-you for being there" will mean so much to him. Try to remember to say it often over the years, it helps a marriage immensely.....I've been married 14 yrs now and so many of our mutual friends who married same time as us are separated or divorced...I tend to think they forgot why they married and forgot to appreciate what they had...Sometimes, just saying :Thank-you" is enough...

Men don't really care about romantic dinners and such. The best gift you can give him is a good home cooked steak dinner followed by a BJ.

Believe me, he will be happier than anything else you can do or give.

You already said the idea. Send the kids away for a weekend. Make him a wonderful dinner on Friday night, and then spend Saturday together doing adult things you haven't been able to do. Walk in the park, golfing together, whatever. Barbeque on Saturday night, be informal, have fun! Pick up the kids as late on Sunday as you can, so you can stay up on Saturday night and do more adult things. :)

Because you want to say thank you to him - make it about him - what is his favorite thing to eat - and hasn't had for a while - maybe a good thick steak and baked potato - take him to a steakhouse -
or maybe go to someplace you guys went to for a special date or anniversary.
or take the kids to a babysitter and have a meal catered in - call around to different caterer's - I'm sure there is one in your area that would do a romantic dinner for two.

i honestly loves it when someone cooks for me. you can set it to how you like that way and theres no waiting. and honestly, a good meal is not that difficult or needs to take long. and of course when it's at home, and the mood is right, there are things you can do at your house that you might not want to do at a restaurant.

i put emphasis on dessert and aphrodisiacs. shellfish, chocolate, garlic (yeah...garlic!), etc.
