Why do Muslims in Middle Eastern countries seem to be so unable to tolerate difference?

Watching the news, it seems like most Muslims cannot tolerate anyone who does not believe the same way they do. It’s like, here in the U.S., if I am pro-choice and you move in next door to me and are pro-life, we may disagree, but we do not resort to violence. In the Middle East, as soon as I hear that you are pro-life, I would blow your house up. Christians here in the U.S. may vocalize their beliefs and preach against certain actions, but at least they do not blow up elementary schools. Is this a misperception I have, or is it true that most Muslims do not tolerate difference?

Because their thinking is "old world". Someone disagrees with you, you lop off their head. Someone who you disagree with, you lop of their head.

Indeed there ARE. And, yes, they are made up of women IN and from those countries. I remember a few years ago, Saudi women portesting the "women can't drive" thing. There are some male feminists in every country, too. I'd imagine a smaller proportion of men in those countries are feminists, compared to, say, the US, Canada, the UK, etc. Women are putting themselves in danger when they protest, but they WANT their human rights. Women have fought for and gotten the right to vote (though, as I recall, their votes don't actually count, or count for less, or something). BTW, there are gay rights movements in those countries as well. Imagine how THEY'RE treated! Although feminists in more egalitarian countries do what they can for women's rights in less egalitarian countries, they don't get anywhere without the support of enough women IN those countries. Or, rather, they support the indigenous movements. And why is someone attacking you for this question? I see nothing wrong with it. (I saw your Additionals replying to someone. Just don't abuse the Guidelines!)

Religious intolerance is an issue in all countries. Some muslim nations such as Turkey are more secular, but none of them separate church and state or allow their citizens the degrees of freedom of speech allowed in Western countries.

As long as these conditions exist, you will always have an element bringing down the state-sanctioned hammer on its opposition. It doesn't matter if the element is religiously affiliated or secular.

Some, but not all...do not turn into a sterotype. It will not get you anywhere in life. Me and my friends at school get judged by them all the time because we wear skirts, have bfs, wear make up, use the internet, go out. And they want to brand us as 'sluts' whereas we are just normal adverage teenage girls.

The news only shows the bad stuff, anything GOOD about Islam isn't worth showing. They want viewers so the more bad stuff they show, the more viewers they get.
