After a night being "tied," the tag turned dark purple and is kind of withery. My intent is to have it fall off. I plan to use hydrogen peroxide on the formerly attached area ASAP. This hurt very slightly--this is real skin with blood supply.

I've had this tag for years. It was smaller than a thumbtack head but thicker, and pink like the skin around it. Now it looks like a half-size cocoa puff, hopefully shriveling away.

I know I have the option of consulting a dermatologist. When I did a while ago, she told me it was not cancerous.

sterilize a scapel or a brand new box razor and cut it off. apply pressure with a tissue for a few minutes until bleeding stops. put antibacterial ointment on it and a bandaid. that is how i always treat my skin tags!

Of course there are risks, anytime you do at home surgery there will be risks. Tying a string around a skin tag is an old time thing, people did it who were afraid to go to the doctor.
Chances are you will not bleed to death because of a skin tag but it could get infected and infection could be serious. It is so easy to have it snipped by sterile instruments at the doctor, why would you take the chance?

It's easier to cut them off with a pair of Cuticle & Nail Scissors. If you cut them right at the base and not the skin around it they come off very clean. Be carfule not to cut off something that could be cancer. I've done this numerous times.

You could risk infection even w/ the skin not broken. Sounds like a type of genital wart. Have it looked at by a physician.
