You know when you're in a plane and you feel your ears pop? That's the air pressure changing. That same effect that air pressure has on your eardrums applies to everything else in a plane. I've even had full bottles of shampoo leak onto everything before, not just pens.

I flew for about 3 hours a few months ago -- and I was drawing the entire time. My pen was just fine...but it would have scared the living daylights out of me if it had exploded!

I fly almost 100 times a year and always have a pen with me, and that's never happened to me.

The pressure of air drops in the cabin as the plane climbs. The pressure of air inside the bottle is more than pressure of air outside of the bottle. If the bottle is not air tight, the contents of the bottle leaks through the gap.
