The answer is found at Romans 15:4
"All the things that were written aforetime were written for our instruction, that through the comfort from the Scriptures we might have hope. . ."
OR. if you prefer 1 Corinthians 10:11
"These things were written for a warning to us upon whom the ends of the systems of things have arrived."

If you read it you will notice that these were not just written by someone out of know where! these were guys that walked with him, talked with him, they saw the miracles the healings the demons cast into swine!
