Sarcoma is one of the least common type of cancer and probably the most aggressive. There are many subtypes of sarcoma, all are very rare and often affect 50 or less people worldwide in a year. Sarcoma can hit any age group but it seems to be predominately a childhood cancer. For adults there are few treatment options. Sarcoma research is also seriously underfunded with major government cuts seriously affecting the ability to fight the disease.

My son has a rare sarcoma that affects fewer than 200 people worldwide at any given time.

All rare cancers are rotten because hardly any treatment options exist to help patients. At most patients rely on the trickle down treatment protocol . . they use treatments intended for other types of cancer in the hopes that they will have a response.

There is a small list of the 100's of rare cancers here:

I reported in CANCER a lymphsarcoma of the prostate and later a case of Leiomyosarcoma of the bladder. These are sarcomas and not cancers, but few have ever seen one.

Even though you hear about it a lot, childhood cancer in general (including all childhood cancers) is the rarest. I am not sure what the most rarest cancer would be, I would think there would be more than one.
