I am undergoing IVF and was wondering what happens when you hit a vien or artery and inject the medicine. I know they say withdraw the syringe if you pull back blood but what happens if you accidentally inject the medicine.

It will enter the body at to fast a rate and can cause problems depending on themedicine. The draw back is important for that reason. The areas where shots are supposed to be given have few veins and arteries, because they aso have no major nerves. If it hits he vein it may not cause anyproblems (other than to rapid absorption) except for a bruise.

It depends on the medicine. The problem is that if you inject the mediceine directly into the vein, it acts much quicker than if the med is injected into the muscle. This can be a problem, especially if the medicine acts on the heart, since a sudden bolus of the drug can cause sudden arrythmias.

depending on the medication, nothing much. If the medication is intended to be intra muscular usually it is because it should be absorbed slowly, you just get some of it quickly is all.
