I assume you mean career-wise.

Industrial Engineering is interesting and under-subscribed. It involves many other engineering aspects and yet almost every task is an opportunity to think.

Many of the other Engineering fields you'll be drawing and crunching numbers for some one else long before you really get involved in thought provoking issues.

If you want solid engineering and up to a challenge consider combining Aero Space with Geology. That will take you to the planets.

There will also be exciting developments in Marine Sciences.

All fields of engineering are equal and as important to society. It depends on your preference of academic interests and outside activities. The most popular is Civil Engineering. Majority of the graduates from The Colleg of Engineer at most schools in America are Civil Engineers. Mechanical is 2nd on that list and with Chemical shortly behind. These are b/c they have been known in history more than the other fields.

Civil deals with structures and designs that directly integrate into the world's surface such as roads, buildings, bridges, etc.

Mechanical deals with mechanical designs and innovation.

Chemical deals with chemical designs and inventions.

Chemical is the highest paying field as well as the hardest academic path to complete in college. Civil is the lowest paid field with having an easier academic path in college. That doesn't make one better than the other. It just deals with the demands in today's society.

Also, civil is the most widely used, easiest to find a job and has the better job security compared to all the other fields.
