I live in a block of flats and there is a suspected "crack house" on the ground floor of the flat. Residents have written to the council but they don't seem to give a toss. What can I do and what proof will the police need before they do anything?

Sounds like you are living in Britain with you mentioning council????? all I can suggest is that you keep reporting them to anyone who will listen, bug the life out of the authorities and get yourself a digital camera and record their every movement, phone the local newspaper's, and start a petition and get as many people to sign it as you can, and if it is safe for you, let the culprits know that you are onto them and maybe they will cut and run, anyway's, it's high time we started going on the offence with scum instead of being on the defense, however, Good Luck.

I can help you out with this question. The police need probably cause to obtain a search warrant for the house. The police have to follow the 4th amendment guidelines. I would suggest calling the police to report the suspected "crack house." If you do not get any results from the local police then I would contact the County Sheriffs Office who can put you in touch with the drug task force. It takes people like yourself to get involved to make a difference.

I'm assuming the usa.....but in sure this would also work in England. Since us law is rootend in english law.

Firts off call the police and ask your area resident to do so also. Tell em to be persistent. Dont call 911 (immediate emergency number) unless you were immediatly indimitaed of your life or severe harm. If you have a landlord call them or call the condo association also. They may have an interested also. The police need to work with the bill of rights, namily they need probable cause and reasonable suspition and follong the 4th amendment along with others ones. You and your area resident can help the police in building reasonable suspition or probable cause by complaing, a reputable PD will log your complaints. They may survey the building, send in informants, send in buyers etc to build this. It take time to build a good arrest. If you feel unhappy with the response, call the county police.

Do what these people said and if that doesn't work.

Kill a crackhead late at night leave their body on the front door step with crack " sprinkled" all over and a crack pipe and some crack in the pocket, then call the police.

if you live in the uk the police have powers now to shut and board up crack/drug dens, problem is that getting the order past an issuing judge in court is difficult

what you may not realise is that the police will probabl be well aware of it and are probably doing an operation on it gathering evidence in a way that you will never notice, believe me, the police are very good at doing this.

it just takes time, thats why it appears that nothing is being done, but eventually you'll be woken up one morning to the sweet sound of enforcer hitting front door and smashing it down, followed by soulfull cries of "police, everybody be nice and co-operate please, we won't hurt you so please don't fight back, STOP RESISTING, OOPS I BROKE YOUR HEAD" hehe

The police will need to present evidence to a magistrate in order to obtain a warrant to search the premises. If you and your neighbours all contact crimestoppers and report the suspicious activity it will eventually filter down to the relevant department who can then endevour to obtain sufficient evidence to get a warrant.

Your complaints alone would not be sufficient to obtain a warrant, it would need to be corroborated by multiple intelligence reports or physical evidence of drugs use in the premises.

After you have contacted the police to request that a car is sent around to inspect the activity, you might consider getting your neighbors together to create a neighborhood watch. I have found that when the neighborhood works together they can drive the crack houses and dope dealers right out of the neighborhood. We have to learn to take our neighborhoods and schools back.

Try crime stoppers if you want to remain anonymous or just call your local Police non emergency number. Information is always useful to the Police and if it's accurate, it's worth acting on and will be if resources allow.

You can call the local police (not 911) and inform them and they will send a car to look around, but without visible proof they can't get a warrant. But you can call and have them take a look
