Unlike some of our answers about us having different view points, and leaving it at that.
I'll go a bit further and say no one really knows what the correct translation of the old testament means, it actually means different things to different people, and the reason why it means different things is because people have chosen to have prophets that have translated this bible to mean whatever they think it should mean.
As an atheist it doesn't really bother me at all if folk believe in God, I dont , but religion is a different matter, complete rubbish!!
You are correct of course Muslims and Jews believe there is but one God, Christians confused the issue some what by believing in their holy trinity that Jesus was also God, not only was he God but he was his own Son, and also the holy spirt, as as you may well imagine this is likely to cause a bit of hassle for strarters!
The Muslims then had their prophet Mohammed on the scene, this caused even more hassle, I could ramble on but I can 'feel' folk nodding off all around me.
When I first started looking into all this religious stuff, I eventually got to the Koran, which is more or less the same to Muslims as the new testament was to the Christians, completly different intereptation of the old testament of course but same old, same old, sort of thing.
Because I dont read Arabic I have an English translation, now having worked in many Arabic states I had many questions to ask on the Koran, I asked a few of their leaders and teachers, (very politly of course) to explain!
Most of them asked me where I had got this information from.
They then said the words of the Koran are Arabic and cannot be translated to tell the truth!!!
I have since been on this particular section of yahoo and got the same answer, I think they are correct it cant be translated just into any language and remain with the same meaning, and the same applies to the old testament.
If I could understand every langauge under the sun I would still believe that it's all a load of tosh, that is all the holy books and the belief in God..

I think it comes down to one thing: Legalism. According to what I've read Christians, Jews and Muslims all worship the same God but that each thinks the other has lost the proper method for worshiping Him.

To illustrate: God made a covenant with Abraham and that established the Jews as His chosen people. Jews ended up getting caught up on other things and getting away from God so He sent His Son Jesus to the Jews to atone for their sins. The Jews did not recognize Jesus for who He was thus arises Christianity. Christianity starts to spread throughout the world and then a man by the name of Mohamed gets a vision from God telling him that both Christians and Jews are off base and thus Islam is born.

1 God, 3 religions with very different ideas about what it means to worship God. Christians and Jews don't fight so much because Christianity was born out of the Synagogues. Islam rose up pretty much independently of the other 2, thus the fighting there is a lack of understanding between the judeo-christian world and Islam.

Because they believe that there God is the true God . Like all the other religions in the world . For there is only one God but
you will not find God by going to some church or some temple
in this world. Gust read the KGV of the bible and search for the true God.For the proof of God is in there / but man has not seen it yet for they ar ate up by what they read on the subject of what some so called expert has to say. It is up to you to find God and you alone not by them that stand out there
in the world and say come join us for we have the truth for they will take you to a false God and Christ.

Conflicts between the people of the truth that you speak off only fight due to lack of understanding of each other and the higher spiritual truths, which their religions lack in.

There is not enough of true faith in those people, and I will say that you are not a true Christian, Jew or Muslim untill you behave truely in your heart, of which will entail true faith, faith free of conflict. God and true faith is through peace.

Says so a Nazorean Gnostic.

A believer of the true God of love, wisdom, power and justice fights no one, as he leaves all of the revenge, fighting and settings matters straight, to the One who can and will do it best of all at Armageddon!
What name anyone decides to call themselves, is just that, a name! Actions are what matters and count to a God who only wants to be worshiped in spirit and truth. John 4: 24

There's only one game of football but it doesn't stop supporters of opposing teams fighting one another.

Religion serves the same purpose. It just provides a way for some people to feel like they belong to a gang.

At its most fundamental just a primitive, basic urge that some people have.

Religion serves no other purpose!

Ah! Humanity, my friend, (as we all know) often forgets to be humane. We forget the essence of the blood that pumps through our veins, and forget that we all need food to sustain us, and we forget that when we take a crap, everyone's crap stinks.

We focus instead on our differences. We make rules which make sense to 'us', and then get lost in the assumption that our rules make sense to everyone. We dictate (based on the number of folks who believe as we do) the RIGHT of things.

People of differing religious backgrounds fight because religion is made of rules that make sense to humans... but have little to do with the Creator. Religion is more about people and their relationships to other people than a relationship to the Divine.

But that's just my view.

If they listened to what god taught than they wouldn't be fighting at all! All three religions teach peace and to love your neighbor. The problem is not God's it is the fact that people don't listen correctly.

Mankind's differing perceptions of Him connected to the hope for an afterlife linked to His dictates and the fear of not being included along with ignorance and intolerance cause religions to be incompatible and their followers to war against one another.
