Religion made by Man in his Image will end and only Gods righteous religion will remain. Babylon The Great! The great harlot”! (Revelation 18:9, 10) Why so shocking a designation? Who is she? Some have identified this symbolic harlot with ancient Rome. But Rome was a political power. This harlot commits fornication with the kings of the earth, and this evidently includes the kings of Rome. Besides, after her destruction, “the kings of the earth” are said to mourn her passing. Therefore, she cannot be a political power.
Additionally, since she is mourned also by the world’s merchants, she could not picture big business.(Revelation 18:23) We read, however, that ‘by her spiritistic practice all the nations were misled.’ This makes it clear that the great harlot must be a worldwide religious entity.

Education - The Church was the first educator. University's like Oxford, Yale, and Notra Dame exist only because of religion. The Vatican has the most private telescopes outside of governements.

Hospitals - The Church is the first hospital to take care of the sick. Still today, most Hospitals are named after Saints, or Religious affiliations. Additionally, in many third world Countries a religious hospital is the only facility to help the poor. The Blessed Mother Teresa was famous for pulling dying men covered with maggots out of the sewers in India and giving them the love in the last moments of their life.

Food Banks/ Homless Shelters.

And the list goes on as numerious as the sands on the Earth.

The basic structure of any society or civilization is on the basis of religion. It is the only thing which makes human race different and progressive over other creatures. Hunger, Sleep, Fear and Sex are common in all including Human beings, but religion is the only thing which puts us in to a different and higher slot. Religion has worked as the most powerful law for disciplines in societies. You don't need a police man to keep a watch over a religious, God fearing man. Religion has served the purpose of basic constitution of code of conducts in all civilizations and races around the world since centuries. So you can't discard the importance of religion. Those who create havoc in the name of religion are not religious in any sense at all. One can not blame any religion for any kind of riots or terrorism... it is only the wrong thinking and misconception of some non religious people. Religion is the only discipline man has accepted wishfully, we must understand that.

On an individual level, it can be good. You are speaking of generally, in the whole world type of deal. Then I could say I can't name one good thing Politics has done for people. I can't name one good thing Psychology, as a whole, has done for people... but on individual basis I can. Ever notice the obsession with Generalizations? And the only time people will claim those generalizations are TRUTH is when it's about something they don't particularly like. =>

The best thing about religion is that it controls the world population. The religious wackos think theirs is better than the other person's religion and then they start fighting and killing each other as in the case of Serbs and Bosnians and Shiat and Sonni people in Iraq. Does this count?! Also some people are naturally stupid and they need a religious faith for guidance. I think it may be helpful to some in that way also.

Dear siren,

May I suggest that you go to the library and take out some books on Christian missionaries. I don't know if you understand the term "missionary" but this is a person who goes to a foreign country to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the people in their own language.

I do not know if you saw the movie, "Chariots of Fire" but this was about Eric Little. He was an Olympic Gold medalist who gave up sports to bring the Gospel to the Chinese people. His care and love for others is a testimony of the saving power of Jesus Christ.

Mother Teresa and her work.
Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
There are plenty of missions in Africa too giving an education to the poor.
Ireland would never have become a republic had the christian brothers not given the catholics enough of an education to get rid of the British Rule.

Mother Teresa, all the religious charities, all the people who behaved better after converting (I am not saying it's the only way, but religion does help some people stop destructive behaviors)
