Write a letter. Cancel the papers. Cancel the milk. Fill out a medical form. Take a quick look around to check for missing O-rings or tiles. Play monopoly. Play Twister. Then FINALLY they get to press the big red button marked "GO"

There are thousands of items that need to be checked after the space shuttle is moved. It just takes time. It has to be fueled, and any damage repaired. Checked and rechecked for reliability.
