Next door neighbor just invited us to his retirement party. I think he did it to be polite because of cars parked in front of our house, noise keeping our kids up, etc. We don't know him very well.. don't even know his last name. Anyway, do you think he actually wants us to show up? And do we bring something? (If so, any ideas?) We are in our 20s and have never been to a retirement party before. Thank you!!

You could go and you will probably have fun. There will probably be plenty of younger people there from his job. If you are not comfortable, just drop in for a few minutes. As far as a gift, there are many caps, t-shirts, etc. that say retired on them. Just a little gag gift is what many people get at their retirement parties. Or is you don't like that idea, get something for his yard like a plant. You can probably get an idea from looking at his yard, what type of things would look nice.

I did not know my neighbors well and they invited me to their Christmas party. I was going to bring candy and drop in for a little while. It was so enjoyable I ended up staying for a couple of hours.

He invited you---for whatever reason he INVITED you---so go---have fun, eat, meet new people, get to KNOW your neighbor---it's sad that you live right next door to someone and don't even know their NAME.... maybe this is his way to open up a little and get to know YOU too...... you can bring a nice retirement card and maybe put $20 in it or something like that if you want. oh and I guess you can't complain about the cars if you DO go---but if you DON'T go and DO complain about the cars, your not being all that fair to the neighbor---GO and get to know him---good will among neighbors is ALWAYS a good thing.... and there is NOTHING that says people in their 20's can't be friends with people in their 60's----the OLDER'S may come in handy some day when you need some THING or some wise advice about something.... so GO!!!!!
