When the Bible says that man is created in the image of God, it is not talking about a physical image. It talks about our relationality, our emotions, and our ability to have a relationship with God. So no, monkeys aren't close to the image of God.

It goes beyond physical similarities. Their genes, in many cases, are in the same order, even where there is no functional relationships. Little haphazard viral DNA (HERVs) inclusions are located in the same genes, indicating that we are related. many genes show similar degrees of difference with chimps the closest, other apes progressively more distant, Old World monkeys more distant, and New World monkeys the most distant monkeys. We are more similar to chimps that the Old World monkeys. All evidence of common descent.

Get your facts straight. We did not evolve from modern day Monkeys.
Humans share an ancestor with monkeys that is more Ape like than anything else.
And we do share alot with them, 97% DNA. That's a good bit.
The fact that we share DNA proves we are of the same origin. If we were exclusive from other animals (Apes), we would not even be close in DNA, or appearances. (don't tell me when you look at a chimp you can't see a Human likeness)

God is a spirit, so he was not speaking about physical appearance.
Mankind was made in the likeness of God, in that that he was made a moral and reational creature with dominion over the animals.
