Yes. I would love to believe that their is someone something looking out for us all the time. I can't believe in god though because he doesn't help anybody. Help the children of the world help the starving people help the raped and murdered kids. I do as much as I can but if their is an all loving father up there throw them a bone dude help them out. The children not people that want to win the lotto or something.

Well no... I believe different things. What would prevent me from ever being a christian again is god's treatment of Abraham with regards to asking him to kill his son. There is no way to look at this in which god is not an abusive tyrant. Everyone involved knew that he would kill his son, so nothing was gained and nothing was learned.

What can WE learn from this story? That god can ask us to go against the sense of right and wrong which he has allegedly put into us. That god may ask us to kill people we love.

Look at this story from all viewpoints and it is a block which simply cannot be overcome for anyone who wants to trust the bible god.

The only reason that I might 'like' to believe, is the rest of my family being Catholic. If they're right, I'm screwed big time in the afterlife while they'll be having a blast. That's kind of a bummer to think about. But I've tried it their way and couldn't do it. I haven't shut the door completely on a higher power, but it wouldn't be the God that you speak of.

Not so much Bible & Christ, but definately a divine being.

And the big hold up was finding mathematically rigorous proof that free will is merely an illusion, that we do make choices, but that they are predetermined.

Theism doesn't make much sense without free will.

My intelligence stands in the way. My ability to see the cracks in the foundation of Christianity. My ability to see and read the contradictions in the Bible. My logic that explains that God cannot exist.

I have no need to believe in anything that is based on ancient myths and legends. The fact that none of it is based on any real proof is good enough for me.

Guilt, The whole thing is you should love me becasue I died for you, it is pushed into childrens heads, you have to believe in me, I sent my only son to die for your sins, and if you dont believe in me you go to hell, and they say you have a choice, what kind of choice is that. And if that werent enough, I am pro-choice, and support gay marriage. It seems I am doomed to hell.
