If the color you bought is not a peroxide color, it will not lift your original color at all. That kind of color only deposits color, it does not lift color. If you want to go lighter, get a highlifting color, such as Beige Blonde. To lighten your hair you must have peroxide mixed with the color, stay away from "ash" colors. Ash color tend to turn green, unless a little red color is mixed with it. You probably would like your hair highlighted first, so you could see if you like it.

I don't trust the ash dyes anymore. It may lighten your hair a little but so slightly that only you notice. I would enhance your color by going with a regular brown or little darker, then add highlights. I don't do Loreal either, I think it is harsher on your hair. I use Miss Clairol. Good Luck. Been coloring since I was 13, now 40.

I'm not sure what colour it will go.... if it's a permanent dye then it could go lighter, but there's no way of temporarily lightening your hair - it will only lighten if it's permanent. Therefore if it's wash in/out or semi-permanent it will only make it darker. I doubt it will go ginger! You can always dye it a dark brown? Not sure how dark ash brown is!

It doesn't sound like too drastic a change. It should look good. But when the color fades down your hair may have a brassy tone, so you'll have to keep coloring it forever. Salon color lasts longer and looks better than store brands though. I've just recently let my natural color come back. I had to get my hair cut really short to get the old color off. Now I wish I had never colored it at all. Good Luck.

Probably lighten in some, maybe some ginger highlights may appear. I doubt it'll make much of a change, however.

Best of luck.

It will probably be lighter with a reddish undertone to it. It will probably look nice though. You can always try a semi permanent color like Clairol's natural instincts first if you want a change.
