"Christians" mistakenly put the Bible ahead of God in rankings of importance. That is why they take the Bible so literally--and in doing so, they miss its deeper meanings and the secrets within.

The Bible is like every other book in that if you only pick and choose certain things out of it you can come up with whatever story you want. If you are going to use examples of where Jesus said things you should probably double check them because Jesus did not say if you live by the law you die by the law, he said "Those who live by the sword shall die by the sword"

The Bible is never in conflict with the Holy Spirit as it was the Holy Spirit who inspired the men who wrote it.

The Jewish people had the Law of Moses and the prophets (The old testament) and the religious leaders of Jesus's day made a big fuss about strictly following every law to the point of adding to the laws themselves but Jesus had come to fullfill that law and he said that the law was made for man, not man for the law. That is why he gave this example.

There is a passage of scripture that speaks about a farmer who's ox fell into a ditch on the sabbath ,which was to be a day of no work for Jewish people, Jesus used this as a way of teaching them that people were more important than a legalistic inforcement of the law

And He said to them, "Which one of you shall have a son or an ox fall into a well, and will not immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?" (Luke 14:5)

Jesus taught that loving others and God was the highest priority of any human being so again how can following the bible be in conflict with the Holy spirit when it was the Holy spirit who inspired the men who wrote it ?

The problem with you logic, thinking and reasoning is that anything and everything that you (or we) know about Jesus and what he said come from what is written in the Bible.

Therefore, if The Holy Spirit were to instruct you to do something that contradicts what Jesus said or taught in the Bible, what would you do?

You say that you can give hundreds of other examples where Jesus said if you live by the law, you dies by the law. If this is so, why didn't you use even one of those examples? And the example you used had NOTHING to do with an example of where the Holy Spirit could or would contradict what has been written in The Bible.

In any event, and regardless of anything else you and I have said, I would have to say that one should listen to the promptings of The Holy Spirit versus anything that is written in ANY book, or spoken by ANY person (authority) outside of themselves.

What about the scripture that states that 'the law makes nothing perfect'?

Did not Jesus break just about ALL the Jewish laws (which were and are the Old Testament--or The Bible to the Jews at the time); and all the Roman laws? And did Jesus not only do this, but also stated to render unto Ceasar?

Was he not killed for NOT following those laws--or more importantly, was he not killed FOR following some other set of 'laws'?

Also, did He not say that he came NOT to destroy the law but to fulfill it?

So therefore, if Jesus wasn't listening to and/or following ANY of the rules set down by any of the established authorities at that time, then who and what was Jesus listening to--or what set of laws was He following and fulfilling?

Regards,

When Jesus said "live by the Law, die by the Law" He was speaking of the Law of Moses(the 10 Commandments & Levitical Law) His Death intoduced the Grace (Forgiveness without merit "for by Grace are you saved, through Faith, that not of your own").
He did say to obey the law of man unless it goes against the Word of God. If the sign said to worship the pond, you could not("I am the Lord your God, you will have no other gods before Me") as this would go against God.(so all you folks out there worshiping mother earth may have a problem).
His Word also says "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" So if you the one drowning would you want someone to save you?
The Holy Spirit will never conflict with Gods Word!
The Holy Spirit, God, and His Word or one in the same They cannot, and will not contradict each other (read it all in context)
As a bonus I'll give this Gen.1:1"In the begining was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God..."
Therefore Jesus Christ IS the Word of God!!!

we are to obey God first, never obeying an authority that goes against God. Of course we are to try and save the boy- when Jesus was asked why He healed on the sabbath- which was a law written by the Pharisees- He replied- "is it better to do good or bad on the sabbath day". We need to obey God first- There is a law that says, "abortion is ok, and legal" but the Holy Spirit certainly did not write that one did He?

Do you honestly think you would go to jail or get fined for saving the boy? You're not even going against authority in that instance. "Swimming" is not the same as saving a life.

One command of the Bible is to submit to the law of the land. The Holy Spirit does not contradict the Bible. The Bible is a way to "check" whether you are really hearing from the Holy Spirit, or whether it is your own mind or the voice of the enemy. Everyone needs this check, in my experience, those who ignore it end up in confusion and do dangerous and crazy things.

Obey the laws of the land unless, they go against what God has told us. An example would be abortion. Abortion may be lawful however, it is against God's teachings. You must listen to the Spirit in these matters.

Also what did the "No Swimming" sign mean? I am sure that it meant no recreational swimming in this pond. When it comes to God's Word, we need to rightly divide the Word of Truth.

The men who wrote the Bible were inspired by God to write what He wanted them to write and the Holy Spirit is God. There is no conflict in the Bible and in the Holy Spirit because they come from the same source.

If you think of the Holy Spirit as something that helps you interpret the Bible's meaning for YOUR life, then the Bible can still be correct if you want to use that one verse as an example.

You would say that the Hold Spirit told you, well, what the government meant was to not go swimming in the pond for fun. They didn't mean leave someone in the pond to die. (That would be too much to put on the sign.) So I will save the boy.

Doing the right thing should always trump statute law, regardless of the consequences.

Blindly obeying those in authority seems to have been a contributing factor in so many Jewish villagers complying with Nazi orders to line up to be massacred. I'll never forget the interview with the survivor who admitted that she told her father to cooperate with the uniformed soldiers' orders to strip and line up in front of the burial ditch or he'd only make things "worse." How much worse could they get?

In any event, the Bible was written by men who claimed to be inspired by the Holy Spirit, men have transcribed and translated the individual books from oral history over and over, and the books to be included were selected by men. So how reliable can the "finished" product be, anyway?

As one born of God, we are not under the law of sin & death, but under grace.

The Holy Spirit would direct us to do the right thing. We obey the law of the land as long as it doesn't contradict following after the Spirit. So. I would do what the Lord's Spirit directs me what to do.

The same as if the Spirit directed me to not drive to town the same way I always do. Even though I could claim a bible verse of protection & drive the same old way. The Spirit already directed me a different way. Trust & obey, there is no other way, to be happy in Jesus, is to trust & obey.
