I doubt it is a virus. Sounds like a hardware problem. Crack open the computer and make sure that there is not alot of dust built up around all your cooling fans. Comuters are desined to shuit down if they overheat. If that is not the cas then I suggest checking into the power supply, it may need to be replace. You can get a power suppkly on Ebay for $10. the worst case is that it COULD be software. Depending on your operating system and other variable you may need to format your hrd drive and reinstall windows. Of course that is the worst case scenario but if you have the time and capability to back up your datas a complete reinstall usually alleviates all problems.

This sounds like a heat problem. Open your computer case and clean out all of the dust and dirt. Pay close attention to the heat sink that is mounted to the CPU. If it is blocked with dust, it can't keep the CPU cool, and this will cause the system to shut down. Also make sure that the CPU cooling fan is clean and working properly. The power supple can have the same problem. If it is full of dust or if it's fan is not working properly is will shut down too.

This happened to my computer a few years ago - and it was a sign that the motherboard/CPU and power supply were going bad. It was almost like one triggered the other. We initially just replaced the PSU, but then the motherboard and CPU fried out. We were told that the CPU and motherboard were running too hot - a sign that they were faililng - and the PSU and fan assemblies were running all the time in an effort to cool it off - and as a result, the whole thing overheated and died after that on/off phenomenon that you mentioned you're dealing with.

Take the whole rig somewhere you can access compressed air. Take the side cover off and blow all the accumulated dust and crud out of the poor thing! Be sure to do a thorough job on the power supply. Use no more than 20psi! After cleaning check all fans(power supply included)for proper operation. Have a nice day.. ;-)=

You need to give more information about your computer for starters.
(1) Desktop or Laptop?
(2) PC or MAC?
(3) How old is it?
(4) If PC, which version of windows? XP, XP-home..???
For starters, you would need to try a System Restore to a date prior to having problems with your computer.
After that it's a check list to find the culprit.

Sounds CPU fan is shot. It's overheating. Your CPU sounds like it may be fried. If this is the cause --unfortunately you will have to buy another CPU. If your computer is older is could be $50.00 if its it newer then the price will go up!
Good Luck

Plug your computing device in, computing device means intake can creep up on you. and verify your cooling unit works, i've got considered computers that overheat fairly rapid And maximum of all, have somebody verify the hardware is interior the properly suited places, and of path, able to functionality
