I am on the tail end of a chicken pox outbreak and I took showers as well as baths...believe me, a lukewarm shower (not hot) is a great relief...I even washed my hair with some Head and Shoulders (contains zinc which is good for the skin) and was fine (just be careful not to massage it into your scalp...you can even use a mixture of colloidal oatmeal and tea tree oil in water to put on your hair - make sure to mix it well though). For drying I used a dryer on cool and low setting...no brush for the first few days...
So to sum up...yes you can take a shower...just use a mild soap (gel or liquid types are better) and apply lightly to the skin (don't scrub).

You'd probably do better taking an oatmeal bath. Oatmeal is good for itchiness which is something chicken pox causes. As the other guy said, showers aren't useful. It's not that you can't get cleaned, but that a bath would be better than a shower.

I don't know why you would quit showering - most doctors recommend soaking in the tub, so it seems like showers would be a good thing. Maybe someone recommended avoiding showers because soap and scrubbing will make the itching worse and also cause scars if you rub off the scabs too soon.

believe me you're not going to WANT to shower if you have chicken pox its a horrible feeling. take a lot of oatmeal baths, but not to many because it'll completely dry your skin out. also, don't buy the cheap pink lotion Buy the aveeno stuff, its a lot thicker and works a TON better
