My wife is a qualified Structural Engineer. She has a Masters in Computer Aided Structural engineer and is an expert in ASH/SILO structures. She is also very well versed with AutoCAD and STAAD PRO.

She came to US last year and since the VISA's expired in one day, she did not get a chance to pursue employment oppurtunities. She is now looking for any oppurtunities where her knowledge can be leveraged. She is even ready to do it for free. Basically she wants to get out of house and work.

We are in Altanta. Any body knows any site where structural engineer freelance/oppurtunities are advertised?

Any body has a position in their firm or would use her skills?

She is preparing for EIT - Engineer in Training certification for this october. She has worked for a couple of years in designing thermal power plants. I know here in united states there are not many thermal power plants but she could use the knowledge and experience gained there in any heavy/steel based construction projections.

Since H1-B visa's expired so fast this year, we are really hoping to find a firm that would sponsor her VISA next year. The main problem is that she cannot work for profit (salaried) until october 2008. On the top of this a firm has to sponsor her visa in April 2008. Also we could only find few companies that sponsor VISA's for structural engineers. Any input towards this would be greatly appreciated.

She should not have any problems finding a job. Not sure on the opportunities in Atanta, but my firm in Wisconsin had a hard time finding structural engineers. We had to turn down work since we did not have the manpower.

Call a few placement agencies, Aspen Technical would be a good one. Check a few websites like monster.com and careerbuilder.com.

Does she have her Professional Engineers License in the State where she wants to practice?
She would be required to have that before she can do any freelance engineering. However, it sounds like she has enough experience to where she could very easily get a job with any Structural Engineering firm.
