The only true "nazi" soldiers were the Waffen SS. They only numbered 20 divisions or so on paper. A full complement in a typical division was around 20,000, however, many were depleted by 1943-45. After the July 20, 1944 assassination attempt on hitler, he had all soldiers, including Wehrmact, swear an oath of allegiance to him...does that make them 'nazis'?

I don't think so, since nazis were a political party as someone mentioned above, but you could give a liberal definition by including all those that swore a personal oath to the Fuhrer.

I think that there is an important distinction to be made. The Nazi's were a political party. The Germany military is called the Wehrmacht.

Within the Wehrmacht there were special units that were made up of only men who were members of the NAZI party. These units were called the Waffen SS. They were considered special forces. They very tough in battle.

During the war over 16, 000,000 men served in the Wehrmacht.

Hope that helps :)

The number of soldiers who served in the Wehrmacht (Nazi Armed Force: Army, Navy, the Air Force and Waffen, special force) during its existence from 1935 until 1945 is believed to approach 18.2 million. This figure was put forward by historian Rüdiger Overmans and represents the total number of people who ever served in the Wehrmacht, and not the force strength of the Wehrmacht at any point in time. About 2.3 million Wehrmacht soldiers were killed in action; 550,000 died from non-combat causes; missing in action and unaccounted for after the war 2.0 million; and 459,000 POW deaths, of whom 77,000 were in the custody of the U.S., UK, and France; POW dead includes 266,000 in the post war period after June 1945, primarily in Soviet captivity. Approximately 11 million were captured by enemy forces.

Most were not members of the Nazi party. Most were just soldiers under orders to fight for Germany.

whilst it fairly is a danger to recommend that the heroic strikes of somebody presented the obligatory turning ingredient to the super Patriotic warfare, the fulfillment of the campaigns against the invaders became into according to many tens of millions of heroic acts and sacrifices by applying the Soviet human beings and their protection rigidity forces. on your record of helping factors, 2 are traditionally incorrect. Hitler on no account ordered or authorized a retreat from Stalingrad and likewise on no account admitted the warfare against Russia became right into a failure; he persisted to proclaim till the tip that all and sundry reverses would be triumph over by applying new great weapons and the tenacity of his militia. The Germans have been pushed from Stalingrad and something of Russia in deadly struggling with by applying many, and the warfare became into won by applying many months of bitter and bloody battles by applying the Russians and their allies.
