I wanted to paint my bathroom and got all the right tools (scourer, scraper, dif, etc) to get the wallpaper off my walls and none of it worked. I googled and searched other alternatives such as fabric softner with hot water, vinegar with hot water, etc and nothing is working. I have a pretty decent sized bathroom and I am on day 3 and have only gotten maybe a 5 x 2 section done. I am so frustrtaed and fed up with this whole process and not seeing any results that now I just want to paint over it. The edges and corners are coming up so I was wondering if I pulled up what was already lifted and spackled in between the cracks of where the wallpaper sheets meet and sand down everything, including the spot where I was working and pulled up the wallpaper could I paint over it if I primed it first? I wanted to paint it a very light pastel blue and the wallpaper is not texture. Or because I've already started and pulled some off do I have to continue even though it's going to take me a month!

You can, but you will see the difference in the wall unless you apply texure over it. (Which is easy and looks good) If you decide to paint over it you'll need to get as much off as you can, then get a sealer like Peel Stop. It is a clear primer that basically glues down the edges of peeling wallpaper or paint. That way you won't have chunks peeling off later.

There are several different options. You could rent a steamer, but if you have worked this hard, it may not work and you would have wasted your money. I think that the best option is sandblasting it to get a smooth surface. If you do not get it to a smooth surface then you will be able to see that under the paint. Once you get it all off, you will need to seal it with an oil based primer to keep any remnants of the wallpaper and glue from seeping through your new paint job. You can then use any regular paint in your color choice, and have a beautiful bathroom. I would suggest a satin or semi-gloss finish so that it will not mildew or run later on. Good luck!

It wouldn't really look nice unless you don't mind it..you'll still see the surface difference. If you do paint over it, maybe eventually the edges of the wallpaper will come off on its own then you'll have problems with color underneath the wallpaper.
I know vinegar works in undoing the glue, maybe there's too much water you're mixing it with. Try a stronger brand and don't mix too much water.

woah woah, slow down there bud, have you thought of just using the sander to get it off? I know wallpaper is evil, I have to take some out for a dining room, 20x30' with 10' high walls. I didnt have forever to get it done, so we rented a sandblaster and used small electric hand sanders to get down to the real wall, which durned out to be under 4 layers of paint and 2 wall papers, was wood!
yes, you CAN go over wallpaper with paint, but sand off as much as you can before painting

Go to a Home depot and buy a professional wallpaper remover chemical.Unless you put texture into the paint it will never look smooth with bits of Wallpaper left.

You could, but if you do when the wallpaper peels off so will the paint you just put on. You need to remove the wallpaper first, and then paint, no matter how much of a nuisance it is.

NO! It will look terrible. You first have to get the wall paper off, or re-sheetrock the surface. But if you leave the texture of the torn wall paper, that texture--the torn parts will always show. I'm not sure if "block filler" paint which is really thick will help, but maybe ask Home Depot.

Thank god this is America, and we have the right to paint our bathroom anyway we want to.
You could use your butt to smear the paint on the wall if you wanted to. It may be a little smudged but you are allowed to do it.
I agree with the first answer, it will probably look like crap if you paint over it. But hey, it's your bathroom.

You will be sorry with the results if you try to paint over it. Just be patient, rent a steamer or buy some stronger stuff.
