Is it because they have problems of their own? Is it because they have no real problems and think anyone talking about problems is inferior?

There's a difference between problem solving, venting, and just plain old whining. It's the whining most people object to- not sincere talk of an occasional problem. Want some cheese with that whine? Some people take complaining much too far.

Becuase when the listener hears their problems they feel the need to help solve the problems and when they can't come up with a good answer they feel inadequate. People who talk about their problems on and on are kind of annoying. Time spent with these people mean unhappy times. Nobody likes to be around unhappy people.

Somtimes it's because they have little compassion or empathy due to being raised uner the delusion it makes you less of a man or woman if you can't "suck it up".This is one of the reasons i was diagnosed as a sociopath at 15 ( wrong Dx by the way ). These days it is referred to as Intermittent Explosive Disorder because we hold in so much with no vent-valve and then when we can no longer hold it we explode violently, usually directing it at whatever poor soul is within our range.
i have long since come to terms with my own defects and no longer suffer from the delusion that denying a thing makes it less powerful and that there is nothing wrong with getting it out, as long as it is appropriate.By this method i am much more compassionate to others and also have more empathy for those poor deluded souls who don't realize they are harming themselves far more by holding it in, as well as setting a bad example of human expression.

It could be their not listening and applying what they hear has caused others to resent them when they come to them.
