do everything you can before you go to court to show the judge that you are sorry for what you did and are changing your habits.. if its a drug offense, go to regular drug counseling, and as much as you can. if its battery, take anger management classes.. even start volunteering and getting records of your work

it may not be a sure way to get out, but i know it wont hurt.. and quit being a ******* idiot would also help

If you have charges pending against you, when you go to court come up with a creative sentence as an alternative to going to jail. This could be some sort of meaningful community service, for example. You could be required to meet certain conditions.

Sometimes, tho'...a short jail sentence is really the best deal for a defendant. When you're done serving, it's over. Probation can be bad because it goes on for a long time. So, maybe its just best for you to take the jail sentence!

The obvious answer is to not break any laws.

However, we break laws every day: going 5 mph over the speed limit (conservative estimate); rolling, "California Stops" at stop signs; giving your 16 year old son a sip of your beer on a hot day; letting your dog run loose in an uninhabited part of the park (leash law); et al.

Further, if we work for someone, even if we are responsible for the owners' SEC, FEC, USDA and other governmental regulatory violations, but you can be arrested for bring part of the conspiracy...

The best way to avoid a jail sentence is to just leave the country.

The Bible said the truth shall set you free, but it was Spiro Agnew who said that a good lie will keep you out of jail in the first place.

Hire Paris Hilton's attornies.

Haha. Ok, sorry. It depends on if this is your first crime or not, the severity of the crime, what the local guidelines are in sentencing for your crime, etc.

It's really hard to give you good advice without more info.
