I got a tat in remembrance of my mom. It's a rose. It's significant of her because her name was Sharon, ya know rose of Sharon, & had a rose on her shoulder too! It's all about what reminds you of that person. I agree on the chinese symbol though if you can't come up w/ anything else. Sorry for your loss & hope you find what your looking for :)

I have a memorial tattoo myself. I think whatever it is, it should represent that person, If they liked birds incorporate a bird into the design etc... Tattoo artist these days are amazing, they could make an image of anything look cool. Just remember that you should be happy with it cause they dont go away.

Go to a good shop and tell them what you're kind of trying to do with your tattoo, and they can help you come up with a design. Ultimately though, it's going to be on your body so it's up to you to decide.

I would not tattoo his name, or a generic symbol like a cross. (Unless he was a devout christian) I would get something that has meaning to him, like if he was into music, get a small bar and notes, or if he liked playing soccer, get a small soccer ball, someting he really liked that doesn't scream to other people that it's a memorial, something just between you and him.

You could get something, an object of sort, that always reminded you of that person tattooed on you, or you could get the zodiac sign of the person with the dates birth to death on there....
good luck

get something that reminds you specifically of your friend. like if he loved movies, then get something movie related, or if he loved reading then get a tattoo of a book. get something that reminds you of him. it doesn't have to look like a memorial tattoo to be one and that way it will be different than all of the rest of them.

my friend was killed a couple of months ago. his girlfriend was shot and then my friend lunged after the shooter and got shot too. i got the chinese symbol for "strength" in rememberence of him. if you dont want to go to traditional cross way, try something like that. maybe he played poker? get a deck of cards. you know something that will always remind you of him.
