Besides banning gay marriage, which is presumably a given, how do you feel that homosexuals should be regarded and treated in society? Are there any changes in laws and attitudes or actions that you would recommend as appropriate? Please do not infer my own opinions on gay issues from this question, which I hope will draw serious thoughtful answers.

Do you believe that
"Failure at getting laid when they were straight forced them to accept alternatives", as you call it, turns people gay? That would suggest that gays started out straight but somehow got "hooked" and that there is no straight person who ever had gay experiences in their past. I doubt that most gays were ever really completely straight. Failure at getting laid has caused many clandestine gay experiences in the lives of otherwise perfectly straight persons, but I doubt that it has ever converted someone away from their true inclinations.

We should love all people the same....

But hate the sin and continue to preach against it. And make laws that keep them from getting legally married.....

Gay marriage will destroy the family as we know it........as it was ordained by God to begin with.
Gay marriage will send the wrong message to our future generations....as if it's okay for Steve to be married to John.

Let's not forget that God tolerated Sodom & Gommorah for just so long before He intervened and cleaned house......

The proper Christian attitude would be to love all others, as we would want to be loved. While I personally do not agree with the homosexual lifestyle, it by no means affects my view of the person. They too, are a child of God just like I am. We are all entitled to fairness and equality in law but in the words of a late, former Prime Minister of Canada, "The government has no business in the bedrooms of the nation." So, while special rights for special circumstances may be acceptable in some scenarios, I don't think we have to make changes to laws in regards to homosexuality as a person's sexuality is a very personal thing. Christians need to be more tolerant, understanding and loving towards our homosexual brothers and sisters. We don't necessarily have to accept the behavior but we should be able to voice our disapproval of the behaviour with out being called a bigot or homophobe while at the same time, showing the love that Christ would have shown if He were in our shoes.

God Bless,

Phil

I think that all people should be treated with respect. I hate that certain groups get singled out and persecuted for whatever reason. I believe that homosexuality is wrong, and I lived in that life for 8 years. Thankfully I met some great Christian people who did love me and they helped me to find freedom. I never ran into anyone who looked at me like I had a fungus. From my own experience, these people are hurting and looking for love. Society's hatred of them just makes things worse. Just because a behavior is wrong, we can't treat the person as a disease. We need to love through the problems and help people to grow.

I want to see a world where we can all just be who we are and be accepted. Who we are is something that needs to be investigated personally though. Are we who we are because that's how we were made, or because our environment caused us to go down a different path? We all have differences, we are unique, but our Maker knows who we are, I want to see us all living as the person He made us to be.

I am a Christian and I believe we should treat ALL people the way we would like to be treated ourselves.

A lot of people who are against gay marriage have the mistaken fear that gay people will be getting married in their churches etc. What gay people are asking for is entirely secular and legal and does not require you or your church to change your traditions or even acknowledge their union. This is purely for practical reasons. It does not even HAVE to be called marriage per say.

But many Christians are also against this and I find that a little cruel. America has approximately ten million gay households, many raising children. As Christian, I can see that there are practical necessities every family needs, irregardless of whether that person’s life is consistent with my religious and traditional views. I humbly acknowledge that I have no grounds to deliberately stand in the way of a person’s right to quality of life, freedom, family when it in no way infringes on my freedoms and my faith. In fact, to do so would be un-Christian of me.

I look at Jesus and see that he fed and healed everyone. He never asked if you were gay or straight first or if you abided by all the laws of Moses first. He healed Jew, Gentile, alike. So when it comes to this gay issue, as a Christian I have to ask, “What would Jesus do?” Jesus said we have to treat others the way we would want to be treated. He said this commandment is superior to all others and fulfils the ENTIRE law. So how could I in good conscience make it MY business to deny a gay person the right to be able to visit and care for his loved one in hospital or any of the other thing essential to his well being and that of his family. Are there not practical considerations that are necessary for everyone to have a productive life irregardless of whether they abide by all the religious rules I follow? Don’t certain basic needs apply to everyone?

We are all human beings. All God's children. Not for us to judge each other. Not for us to point fingers at other people and condemn them. That kind of behavior only pushes people away from God.

For me, it is more important how we treat each other.

What two consenting adults do in the privacy of their bedroom is not my business. Who they love and how they show that love is not my business.

I believe God judges everyone separately. I have gay friends who are much more loving and caring of other people than some people who call themselves "Christians".

Is homosexuality a sin? Some people point to arcane sections of the old testament and say it is. The old testament also has some very odd concepts that would be considered cruel in our modern society but modern Christians seem to pick and choose the ones they like... I think there are two important things to consider here. 1) The Bible has been translated, rewritten and corrupted by man's hand. 2) When Jesus died on the cross for our sins, he abolished the old rules.

For me, I think it is a much bigger "sin" to spread hate.

I think we should spend our resources on fixing ourselves and not worrying whether our neighbors are sinful... I mean, we all sin.

The biggest commandment Jesus gave us was to treat each other as God's children. He didn't say "go forth and condemn each other".

I think it is very hypocritical to say "I'm a Christian and I hate gays, atheists, liberals..." and Jesus had some very harsh words for hypocrites.

No, I'm not for gay marriage for a variety of reasons, and very, very few of them are biblical issues (I like religion in government as little as possible even if not with a hard separation).

In general, though, I believe that as traditional biblical interpretation and Tradition itself state, homosexual behavior is a sin (the state of having homosexual desire is no different than any other sinful desire and those with it shouldn't be judged) and should be striven against in the Church like any other sexual sin.

Outside the Church and the issue of marriage, I really don't care. I'm not here to force people to be Christian. If they leave me and my faith alone, then I'll leave them alone. I don't want nor do I think it wise to have laws policing the bedroom.

If you're a true Christian who follows your Holy book, the Bible, it would be required to kill homosexuals who "lies with a male as he lies with a woman," which is stated in Leviticus 20:13. That's only one of the many reasons I've decided not to become a Christian.
Homosexuals should be treated like everyone else in society, equal.

Gay practices are an abomination in the sight of God.It does not mean however that God despise the person. It is the act. God loves ALL HIS children but we should refrain from things that are not right in his sight so that we can obtain the Holy Spirit in order to live a better life.

First of all gays should be seen for what they are,REALLY are, failed straight people.

Gays are sex maniacs with an agenda, nothing any more grandious than that.
Its true to say that if gays could control their urges they wouldnt be gay.gays are unpleasant, untrustworthy and angry bigmouths.

Gyas are only gay out of desperation.Failure at getting laid when they were straight forced them to accept alternatives.

They have already broke a big norm/taboo once in their lives, why should any normal person think they wont do it again.

Thoughtful answer....
Gay's are human beings, people. The Divine's MAKE NO MISTAKES. Hence gay's are not a mistake. They are a creation to ve respected like every other being around you. Don't presume to be arrogant enough to judge FOR the Gods. It will lead to your own judgement.
