If they cut it very nice && you're pleased with it, about 3-5 Dollars.
Depending on the quality on the salon.

Yes if their not the owner remember that they are being exploited by capitalism , the money goes to the shop owner , a tip to them is appreciated and make sure they will use the better shampoo the next time the start of a good haircut because the hair is more manageable and the expensive smell gives you a good start tho the experience
Also amaze waiters when you go into a restaurant by giving a tip before hand for good service
I have trained as hairdresser and a waiter the pay is abysmal
and they are both dead end jobs with no promotion thank your lucky stars you have a good job How about £2.00 on a $£12.oo haircut and 15% given to the waiter on the approx cost of the meal

Yes. Especially if they work in a salon owned by someone else. You want to give them a reason to keep doing a good job. When you think about the skill involved in cutting hair, they really don't make that much for a cut (unless you are paying $60 for a haircut!).
Tip $5 to $10 depending on what you can afford and how well you liked the cut.

You should tip the person that cuts your hair AND the person that washes your hair (if it's a different person). A good amount for the cut is 10%. For the wash only, 5%.
The exception is: If your hair cut is by the owner of the salon, then a tip is necessary.

Yes, I'd say it's very good sense to tip the person who controls what you look like for the next month or so, if they've done a decent job. I'd go with at least 20%, 25% if you're really pleased.
While we're on it: Please remember to tip your barristas at Starbucks or similar places. They work pretty hard, and it's not always easy work. I can't tell you how much it pisses me off to see people ignoring the tip jar when I'm in these places. It seems to be a development of the last few years. When I worked in Starbucks in the mid-nineties, pretty much everyone put something in the jar.

Depends on how good the person is and how well we click together and how good my hair looks.
If its stellar service I'd tip 20% (my usually haircut that would be about $3 for a 20% tip, and I sometimes tip $5).
Anything less than stellar gets less than 15%, if its horrible they get 0%.

Yes you should. The lowest I've tipped is $2 for OK service, and if I really like the person and how she did my hair, I usually tip between $5 - $10. You can tip more if you so desire, but I'm not rich, so I stay within my budget. If I don't like the service at all, I do not leave a tip.
P.S. I live in Canada.

It depends on the person and how much you like your new cut but you should def tip. I usually give anwhere from $3-5 the most I ever gave was $7.
They dont make very good money so thats why its kinda of customary to give a tip too.

Absoltely! Especially if he/she's been cutting your hair for a long time... If a haircut is 15.00 I'd say 2 or 3 bucks is plenty... Pretty much the same tip you'd leave on that much of a restaurant check.
