You should not allow your daughter to be responsible for any child or infant in her care until she learns first the correct techniques in babysitting. Don't seek serious problems; prevent them through education.

She doens't need official training, I babysat when I was 13-16 w/o official training. However, i was around kids my whole life b/c my mom does daycare & I have 2 younger siblings. Has she had any experience with younger children? As far as what to do...make sure to keep an eye on the kid...think of age appropriate games to play, know where all the emergency numbers are, maybe have her go to the library before hand & pick up some books to read to the kid(s). Baby sitting is really not that tuff, just tell her to do stuff that is fun for the kid's age group & have fun. If she needs specific tips on activities, tell her to ask the parents what their child likes to do.

How old is she? Even if you choose not to take a babysitting course it might be helpful to have an adult in the house the first few times until she feels comfortable. The most important thing is to have a few numbers to call. Can she contact the parents while they are gone? Can she call you to ask questions?

If she has time, most hospitals offer "Great babysitter classes" These classes teach the basics of child care, first aid, and ca make a young girl feel much more confident when sitting. Good Luck!
