In my younger years, (10-15) I recycled thousands of light meters. You know, the thing hanging on the side of your house that measures how much electricity you use. My brother and I recovered copper, brass, alluminium, iron and lead

I just recycled a toilet. It is a regular toilet just like the ones in a persons home. I got an old one that was going to be thrown in the city dump and brought it home and cleaned that sucker up (a lot of cleaner and rubber gloves was involved). I spray painted it purple and had this man make me a sign to go with it. I put it in people's yards for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. My sign said "Help the fight to flush out cancer."
So, I saved something from being thrown into the dump and helped a good cause. The toilet raised close to $400.00!

There are two things I've seen that are pretty wierd as far as recycling.
The first is fence posts made out of recycled baby diapers.
The second is rubber sidewalks made out of recycled tires. They don't crack like concrete ones do, due to tree roots and stuff. They are also easier on people's feet.

We have a small company here in Harlan, Indiana that recycles old tires into a soft, spongy playground material that's easier on the feet and not nearly as expensive as concrete. When kids fall, they don't get as badly bruised as they do when they fall on cement. I think it's a great idea for recycling! -RKO- 05/16/07

If you go to a scrap yard you can find some pretty strange stuff. My husband saw someone bring in an old fridge. All of the metal in the fridge including sopper wire can be recycled.

At work some people think it's strange that I staple old memo's,old letters, etc. together to write on the back and use as scrap paper, or to write notes at meetings in an effort to recycle and save paper, therfore saving trees.

An electric car called the "Think". Made in Sweden (I think by Ford) of completely recyclable thermoplastic with non-polluting dyes to color it. The batteries were also recyclable.

Human Feces. A company in Milwaukee produces a fertilizer called Milorganite, which is made from all of their local citizens sewage. It's kind of gross, and apparently dogs like to eat it, but I still found it in my local Lowes for sale as fertilizer for a garden.
