Suzanne ty for your very informative answer especially after my strongly worded responses to you in the past. 5 stars for you acting Christian regardless of our previous disagreements over doctrine and history.

I've been under the assumption that Evangelical in America wa primarily a name change from Fundamentalist as this title especially during the last decade has become very unfashionable. Oh BTW I do understand there is difference in how Europeans and Catholics everywhere view the title.

In Europe, ALL Protestants refer to themselves as "Evangelicals." However, they also define the term differently than American Evangelicals: they are not particularly Zionistic, nor do they support Jewish causes. They are also not uniformly politically conservative. On the other hand, the typical American Evangelical is all these things.

As far as American Protestants, not all count themselves as Evangelical. Notably absent are the denominations that teach "Replacement Theology," such as Lutherans. I've seen very few Presbyterians calling themselves Evangelical, but this may be because of the influence of Calvinism on their denomination.

Most Evangelicals may be found within the Baptist and non-denominational churches.

But no, I don't think the majority of American Protestants consider themselves Evangelicals.

EDIT: thank you for thanking me. Regarding our past disagreements, my thought is this: I may not agree with someone, but I WILL learn from them -- and if all I learn is more about their point of view, I'm still ahead. And I don't tend to hold grudges. ; )

Most Christian denominations are evangelical to a point but yes Protestants have always been more vocal about, some more then others. The Second Great Awakening in America brought the heavy stuff on.

No. Many of us are simply New Testament Christians. If you have the right substance, you don't need labels.

What? No! What a ridiculous question. That certainly isn't true in the UK and I doubt it is true anywhere else, either.
