It's never too late to start running.......just remember start out slow and short distance ..1 mile...to start and then slowly pick up the speed and the distance.

Absolutely - but do it gradually.
Start with a 5 minute warm up with a brisk walk. Do a slow jog for about a minute and then walk again for 30 seconds (or longer if you need to). Just keep doing intervals of walking and running and gradually increase your run time and decrease your walk time and eventually you'll be running the whole 30 minutes! My mom is 51 and she just did her first 5k last year - she only walked about 5 minutes of the whole thing and I was so proud of her so I know you can do it too!

I started running at Age 48, and now I am almost 50 and Sunday I am running a full marathon. So no I don't think running at age 47 is to old.
If you walk 30 minutes a day I suggest easing into running. I am a co-teacher at a LTR clinic and We start are runners on a 20 minute program for 10 weeks, with the goal of having them run continuously for 20 minutes.
Week 1
Warm up:
Alternate 1min running with 2 min walking
Cool down.
week 2
Warm up:
Alternate 1min running with 1 min walking
Cool down
week 3
Warm up:
Alternate 2 minute running with 1 min walking.
And so on.
When you reach 10 minutes of running 1 walking 10 running. You are ready to move onto something more challenging.

First of all let me high five you on your GREAT choice of shoes, they are like running on clouds!!!
Dont start running just because you bought running shoes, however, it would not hurt. Some people say it is bad on your joints, however they just dont know what they are talking about. YOu must NEVER run on cement. try as hard as you can to run on grass or dirt. the road will work too. and remember you can only go so many miles on your shoes before you need new ones. if you ran three miles , three times a week, you would need a new pair of shoes after about six months. Also Stretch stretch stretch... Follow those basics and you will not get hurt, oh yes and hydrate!!! Good luck

If you haven't ran in some time, then before you start running try brisk walks, then increase your distance. After that try short sprints, see how you do and then increase your distance. Before you know it you will be jogging along increasing your health and making your heart healthy.
Remember some things are good only in moderation. Please don't try and run right out. Before you do anything make sure you stretch first. Cardiovascular excercise is very good for your over all health. Heart, weight, tone, and mind.
After a while you would start to feel better, look better and have more energy to do other things all along while increasing your health, it's a win, win situation if done right.
I applaud you and your decision and wish good health and a long life, enjoy your new beginning.

Start slow and build from there
Walking 30 minutes is good, and you could try running 100 meters every day for a week, then 200 for two, then 300 for three, then 500 for three, then a kilometer, etc
I think 47 is still a young enough to age to start running, as long as you don't rush into it.

Never push yourself too much. You are on the right track by starting to walk every day. Now jog for a minute, walk for a minute, increase by a few minutes each week, taking it slow. Then start to run for a minute, jog for a minute, and increase the minutes as you feel comfortable. If your goal is to run fast or sprint, try doing the same with running/jogging then sprinting a minute.

running is a very liberating feeling. Providing you are healthy, you could start to run. Firstly, graduate to a small run from a walk for a few seconds, whatever u feel comforarlble with, then walk until you gain your confidence in running. Running does involve a bit of fitness. It also depends on your weight. thelighter you are the easier the run unfortunately. ALso try skipping, a form of runnning.

Yes, Asics are great athletic shoes! I would consult with your primary care physician first. That 30 min walk a day is great! I wish I had the time......

47 is just a number ....running will make you forget that number! Just be sure to go slow once you begin and progress from there...the 30 minute walk you've been taking will keep you in track! Good luck!

There is nothing wrong in running and good for you for wanting to start. I am 58 years old and I run and walk. It was hard on me at first because I would be dead tired but am doing better. I love to run and it gives me more energy and I have slimmed down. I don't lose weight when I run. I only lose inches and my legs got more shapely.
