I pled guilty to Misdemeanor Larceny in 2000 and the case was closed in 2006. I want to go to Nursing school so I'd like to get the record expunged so I can just get that out of the way. Can I get the record expunged any time? Is there a limit as to how much time can pass before it's too late?

If you were under the age of 18 when you committed the misdemeanor larceny, you will have an easier time. Here is the statute that governs that scenario:

You can use this form if those circumstances apply:

If you were 18 or over or do not meet the specific circumstances involved in the above expunction, you will need to contact an attorney to see about your chances of expunction.

In NC there is no time limit for requesting an expungement. However, the request and process must be done through an attorney and the process is usually expensive. Expect to shell out at least $1000 for starters.
I double-checked this through my local DA's office. Good luck!

I suggest for you to get legal advice. An attorney is the only one that can give you an estimated time frame "after" he/she has filed the paperwork and the only one that can help you get your record expunged.

The sooner you hire/contact an attorney, the sooner you can resolve this.

Good Luck.
