They are doing the best that they can. You must be aware, however, that reasonable arguments are against god. Just listen to some of the arguments of the guy who just fell well.

I am religious as you say, and in answer to your question 9 out of 10 people are Spirituallyy Ignorant of Gods Word and could not carry on a conversation if their life depended on it. I see all the time where a lot of people quote the Scriptures, (mostly copy and paste), and they have NO IDEA what it means. I will NEVER argue with anyone about Christ, and I always use His Holy Word AND what he has done for me Personally that I feel in my heart to tell of him IF they ASK. I have done many years of Bible Study, and am NO Scholar by any means, BUT I DO KNOW what the Word of God says about Christ from the Original Texts, the Greek and Hebrew. A person can only discuss what they know about as if they try to do it any other way they are ONLY doing and speaking what someone ELSE has told them, and most as I have said are Spirituall Ignorant and do NOT know in the first place what they are talking about. IF I do not know something I will look it up in Gods Word, AND go back to the Original Texts and see what it means from there then I will be Prepared to carry on the Conversation more Intelligently.

Most folks who run their lives based solely in religious dogma, limit themselves to an extreme...this makes it difficult, at best, to engage in good debate, since that would necessitate a well-rounded intelligence of many sources for it to be a worthy exchange.
The other point, is that religion, spirituality, faith, etc. are not based in facts, per say (there are those with knowing, but that would be based in trust & personal inner sense)...nor is it something that can be recognized by the 5 senses that we have been taught....however, there are other senses that, although not formally named by science yet, are in the midst of such...the unseen umbilicals that connect organisms to each other & to the Earth is finally getting noticed...they just haven't found the politically correct way to introduce these findings to the general public at the moment...I am both curious & hopeful for this discovery as yet another "mystery" unfolds!

Sometimes I realize the best thing I can do when I am completely at odds with someone in their religious views is to talk to God about it rather than to that person.
We are not supposed to be quarrelsome... and the Bible teaches us that "when we are asked for the reason for the hope that is in our hearts" (i.e. "why do you believe in Jesus") that we are then to reply with "gentleness and respect" for the other person. Get that? "*when we are ASKED*" which presupposes that there is something in us that draws or attracts others....like love.
Unfortunately, our human nature gets in the way, and many of us just want so badly to "convince" the other person of the Lord's goodness and lovingkindness that we forget that it is only God's place to convert peoples' hearts, and not ours.
My personal opinion is that if more Christians would PRAY about these matters as much as they TALK about them, much more good would be done for the kingdom of God. (And even having said that, I have to admit, I talk more than I pray. Why? Because my human nature is many times at odds with God's perfect ways.)

What do you consider reasonable?
What others consider to be true, you don't? That's just a difference between opinions, when one of us have had a spiritual awakening, been saved you could say, by the Holy Spirit, having had a personal experience that attests to the validity and reality of the existence of God, to learn to walk in the spirit, eh?
So those revelations are not reasonable to you. You don't understand those things, that which you can not hear, see, smell, feel, or taste, you don't understand. Its not unreasonable to speak of spiritual things, but when those non-spiritual beings don't understand them, its not exactly unreasonable, its ignorance.

Maybe because people with opposite views act just as extremist as some of the religious people. A lot in here, no matter what religion or lack thereof, think insulting people is "intelligent conversation".

I agree that we should engage in a conversation with reasonable arguments.
The first step is not to offend the other side using abusive language when we do not believe in the other side's argument. If we do not agree with the other side's story, we just state what is our side of the story / argument.
Can we all agree on this?

I think alot of religious people, even tho they believe strongly in God, don't know the bible, and therefore, would be inadequate to debate. Then there are some that do know the bible, and get frustrated because they are always put in a position to defend it, and would imagine that gets tiring. Religion is personal and private to alot of people. For the people who are going door to door or person to person preaching their beliefs, they are usually shunned for pushing it and called names. I think if people sat down, and had a scheduled type of debate it would be different. Everytime I have seen religion get brought up for discussion, it usually ends in a negative way.

BUT you would have to agree there are many non-religious replies on this site that are without fact-belligerent-shameful
Anytime you would like to discuss (not argue) the Bible-Christianity feel free to write. I have ongoing conversations with many on this site.

Here is a logical argument:
Creation is observable every day, multiple times a day (flowers, trees, the baby robins in the nest on my front door...)
Evolution has never been observed. Anyone telling you otherwise is either 65 million years old or lying to your face.
