try to start with thise site:
www.kanjisite.com
it has lots of info on the japanese wroting system. you can practice these yourself, there are also a lot of practice programs on the internet, i myself liked KanjiGold (google it). it will help you learn words and frases.
as for hte prenounciation, i myself found pimsleurs essential japanese a very good audio course. even though it only handeled the polite form (usually best tolerated). it does get rid of your accent. this audio course is also very good at building your vocabulary and helping you construct simple sentances.
watching japanese tv series (lots of good dramas out there) will help you improve your listening skills aswell as understand some of the countries culture. reading manga comics could be used to practice reading.
make things as much fun as possible, in the end the only thing vital is dedication. 2 years is not enough to learn perfect japanese, but it is certainly possible to get a good enough basis to work and live in japan bythat time if you work hard enough.

Get Pimsleur's japanese course. You can get a sample for about $20 at Barnes and Noble to see if you like it and if you learn well that way. They have the best courses I've yet seen. The only draw-back is, it doesn't teach you to read japanese as they mainly center on teaching you to speak. You'll have to get another book for that.

you can take a language course but if thats not for you my boss learnt to speak japanese by listening to japanese language cd's. you can also try electronic converters as long as they are written in romaji not hiragana because the way a japanese word is written (in english alphabet not symbols) it reads exactly as it is spelt so its quite easy to pronounce words.
