Be very careful with any mayonnaise based dips, spreads or salads as you need to keep an eye on temperature. Make sure you set them out at the very last minute and have them well chilled while they are outside.
Non mayo based foods are good - salsas, guacamole, oil and vinegar pasta salads, etc. Giada De Laurentis has a fantastic white bean dip that I've made many times to rave reviews.

Think about foods that can be prepared ahead and rewarmed or kept warm, or those that won't suffer if they're not steaming hot - baked beans, chicken fingers, oven roasted potatoes.
These websites gives some really great tips for outdoor entertaining:

I love serving things in endive leaves. It looks so elegant, but is simple and inexpensive. Endive is like lettuce, but the leaves are very small and stiff. You can find it at any local grocery store in the produce section. I love to entertain and I have filled the endive leaves with chicken salad, crab salad, egg salad, grilled shrimp, etc. Really, you can put whatever you like in it and the endive sort of acts as a spoon.

chicken wings or tenders have been a huge hit at some of my friend's wedding, and i'm doing them at mine.
Also, mini sandwiches, like chicken or egg salad. We're also doing veggies and fruit. Veggies and Fruit made up real pretty always make for a great food and decor. Cheeses and crackers as well!
Best of luck!

Most catering halls offer fresh vegetables & dip, too. If you can't cut flower shapes just serve in decorative dishes.
Don't forget about BBQ mushrooms! Those are a favorite in many restaurants. (My sister works in food service.)
Enjoy the time with your daughter!

I made two trays for my daughter's spring wedding reception.
A fresh vege tray with a choice of dips ( carrot sticks, broccoli, cucumber sticks) and a fresh fruit tray( strawberries, oranges and fresh pineapple pieces) and a fruit dip and a chocolate dip. They were a big hit. Making them yourself is alot cheaper than having a deli do it.

I was at a wedding where they had these cheese bread/broccoli/pepperoni stromboli type things, cut into bite size strips, and I couldn't get enough of them.
