Because too many troops were posting stuff that without considering that the enemy would find it useful.
Besides, they can still post from privately owned systems. They just cannot post from government owned systems (just like most companies in the US).

The troops die for freedom and yet their own army denies them their freedoms. The US Army doesn't want their own people to know what is going on,so they restrict access for their own people!
