I have to pay my bills and take care of my family. Is it wrong that I do this?

How can providing for your family be wrong?
For many years I had to work the weekend shift, and I never once felt that God would hold it against me, in fact I often thought of my job as a gift from God because it allowed me and income and 5 days a week with my family. How can God hold against you something he has given you to meet the needs of your family? Staying at complete rest does meet your needs and if your family is in distress because you are not working is that not a worse condition? Take time to honor God when you can and keep your spirituality, and do not worry about the thoughts of other people if you know in your heart you are doing this for the right reasons.
Peace be with you.

This topic is complicated. It depends which faith you have. Some faiths think that Sunday is a Sabbath, some say its Friday night till Saturday night - some say it is Saturday.
Some faiths see the keeping of the Sabbath very important - Christians seem to believe that if you ask for forgiveness (for the sin of not keeping the Sabbath) and accept Jesus as your savior everything will be fine.
I am confused about what day is the Sabbath and how I should keep it holy. So, I have personally taken on the tradition of switching what day I personally keep as Sabbath. Perhaps someone of deeper faith would not work on any day that he suspects would be holy and rely on God to provide for him his needs.
I personally believe that the resting on the Sabbath is a metaphor for the enactment of freewill. An object that is in motion tends to stay in motion, whereas an abject at rest tends to stay at rest - but the fact that we can do both is a symbol of our free-will... and it is something that God would like us to celebrate and know that it comes from this gift of free-will he has granted us. We have been granted the power to set ourselves in motion or change to a state of rest or vice versa.
These are not commonly discussed beliefs within any religion that I know of though - so do not take my word for it... and perhaps read the scripture to find your answer to your question.
Peace be with you, in motion and in rest.

First of all, the commandment says that the Sabbath is the seveth day of the week. Saturday not Sunday. You can work all you want on Sunday. God says that we should work 6 days of the week, not be idol, and rest the 7th. That day does matter. Do you know why the 4th commandment starts out with "remember?" It is because he knew we would forget. So if you need to work every Sunday. I say work, work, work.

Keeping the sabbath was designed as a blessing for us humans....

Mark 2: 27-28
27 And [Jesus] said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

Isaiah 56 (http://scriptures.lds.org/en/isa/56 ) explains some of the blessings of keeping the sabbath day. It is really not pertinant whether God will hold your Sabbath day breaking against you or not. The question is, do you wish to receive the blessings associated with living this divine law?

God wants to bless you and your family. If you can keep the Sabbath day holy, and still provide for your family, this would be a blessing for you and your loved ones.

The Sabbath day has been a great blessing in my life. For me it was the first step on my journey towards self-mastery.

Well sunday is the first day of the week, the Seventh Day not the first day of the week is the sabbath and that is Saturday. and in Gen. 1 we understand evening and morning were the first day, evening and morning were the second day, 24 hours was the first day of creation also that is how God tells time the midnight to midnight is mans doing, so sundown Friday until sundown Saturday is the sabbath and if you will email me at wgr88@yahoo.com i will tell you why you go to church on sunday, and you don't keep it holy [sunday] either because only God can make it holy and never did He make the first day holy, and yes He WILL hold it against you we are to come apart from our regular work time and trust in HIS POWER to help us not in our own abilities, try a Seventh Day Adventist Church in your area, free bible lessons www.amazingfacts.org email me also wgr88@yahoo.com God bless

*''Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.'' deut. 20:8

**''What does this mean?
We should fear and love God so that we do not despise preaching and His Word, but hold it sacred and gladly hear and learn from it.''

if you work on sunday, it's not a big deal. our God isn't a ''sundays only'' God. you can, and should, pray to Him and praise Him everyday. it's good to hear a preacher speak, to gain a better understanding of the Word, but sometimes we can't make it to church. turn on the tv. there are several christian networks, and there's nearly always a church service on one of these channels.

this commandment was given to remind people to rest when they can. also, it's important to know that it was given specifically to the israelites, as a way to remind them of who brought them out of slavery in egypt.

Jesus was persecuted for healing a man on the Sabbath (john 5:1-18), and the apostle paul wrote (i can't find the passage right now, so i can't quote it directly) that a man that doesn't provide for his family is worse than an unbeliever.

if you have to work on sunday, work on sunday.

peace

Theologians argue that it's Saturday, or that it's Sunday depending on the person. Whatever. When it is, and what it is depends on you. I know a pastor friend who takes her sabbath on Friday nights, but her "sabbath" is a night to spend with her kids and her family. So if you are working so much that you don't see your family, or that you don't rest ever (and I'm not saying that you do) that is more important and a bigger problem then the day we as humans have assigned as the "church day".

i dont think so. i believe that God sees that we are to support our family. and that the whole "rest on the sabbath" is old testament anyways. just find a way to get fellowship with other christians and do a bible study if you can. it isnt the same as a sunday morning service. but God honors it.

Doing ur duty can never be a crime. Doing the right thing is virtue.
One day in a week jus to remember God and to be in his conscious was a old system.
We know work is worship. So if we do our duty for loving conscious of God then all days will be a day of worship.

My heavens no. God knows us better than we know ourselves and He knows we have to make ends meet (that's what I believe). Since it seems to bother you, I would just pray for a solution and be open to possibilities for change. Perhaps it is just your intuition telling you that you should be doing something else leaving you free on the weekends for family, not just for God on Sundays.
