First, a take on correct terminology: "JustWondering" was correct that it's "Disneyland", not "Disney World" (which is in Florida). Then she goes on to mistakenly call "California Adventure" "America Adventure".
I don't know when you are going, but you should go to Disneyland Resort, and go on a weekday. Disneyland is always most crowded on the weekends, and one of the most popular destinations in SoCal. The other posters are correct in saying you will spend 2 hours each way driving to Sea World in San Diego, which makes for a very long day, and takes away a lot of the enjoyment.
Sounds like you have a plan.
Allow me to suggest a few places to eat:
In-N-Out Burger: Multiple locations, best burger in LA, ask anyone.
Pink’s Hot Dogs: 709 N. La Brea, just north of Melrose. Might see a celebrity.
Tommy’s Chili Burgers: Look for the shack, an LA tradition. Original location at Beverly & Rampart, a couple miles west of downtown.
Canter’s Deli: 419 N. Fairfax, between Beverly & Melrose. Near CBS, might spot a celebrity.
Phillippe’s: 1001 N. Alameda. Great roast beef sandwiches. Near Union Station, Olvera Street. Watch the mustard, it’s hot.

I relatively don't take care of Hollywood Studios so i'd spend the day at Sea World alternatively. The only factor good there may be the Tower of Terror and Rockin' Rollercoaster however you are able to do those in 1/2 a day. Virtually now that I believe about it..Don't go to Sea World for just 1/2 a day. That's not valued at the cash or the obstacle to get there. It appears kind of silly to pay$140 for half of a day and it goes through fast. You're going to usually have simply as so much enjoyable at Hollywood Studios or if not you can normally go to one of the most other Disney parks again.

I would hit Disney if there are children involved. I lived in L.A. from 2000-2001 in Palos Verdes & Torrance area. Get down to Long Beach and see the Queen Mary if you can. While in South Bay the DE AMO Shopping mall is a must. My favorite haunt was old Hollywood. It was in such a sorry state when I left, I hear there has been much urban renewal but It is still nothing like the gem it was in the 30's & 40's back in Los Angeles's golden age.

Disneyland is in Anaheim about 45 min south of LA. Sea World is in San DIego about 3.5 hours from LA. If you've got kids take them to Disneyland. They would love Sea World but that's 7 hrs in the car round trip and you need a whole day there and part of the night because they have different shows at night.

Based on your itinerary you are staying in the Los Angeles area. From downtown to Sea World, which is in San Diego, is about 120 miles. Given traffic, this could take two to four hours to drive.
Disneyland is in Anaheim, California. Disneyland is about 30 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. Given traffic, it would take you 30 to 60 minutes to get there.
Based on driving time, Disneyland is a better choice.
If driving time is not an issue, then what are you more interested in, rides or sea animals? If rides, go to Disneyland. If sea animals, go to Sea World.

Disney land is for kids, the lines are long the day is expensive, but if you have a child in the 4-11 year old range, and money isn't really an object then the looks on there faces will be priceless,
sea world is a 2-3 hour trip by car from LA, but that will still give you plenty of time to see everything, as an adult who loves animals i prefer sea world, you get to pet and feed dolphins and sting rays (its safe) and if you get to take the behind the scenes tour there is some really interesting stuff that goes on behind the scenes,
as for down town what you really mean is Hollywood, and Beverly hills, if you ask to go to down town your gonna go to a business district, big building but not allot to do,
as for museums, natural history museum is great, science and industry is meant for kids but i as a kid didn't find it all that fun but that's just me,
as for the beaches try to get to Huntington beach 1st, Venice beach 2nd, and if you cant make it then try Santa Monica, these three have a board walk where you can go shopping and see some local flare, as well as lounging in the sun and sand,

You wont have enough time for Disneyland in just a day... If the day you want to go has extended trading hours.... (sometimes its open til like midnight).... then go and spend the WHOLE day there otherwise I might goto Sea World.... except you would have to go all the way into SD.... maybe you could goto Knotts Berry Farm which isnt far from Disneyland......

You should go to Disneyland. Sea World is in San Diego and if you are staying in LA it will take about two hours just to get there. Disneyland is closer but expect long lines for rides. Hope your trip is great!
