Horses can have nosebleeds, but do not tend to have spontaneous nosebleeds, so there has to be a reason why it has happened. A nosebleed — properly termed epistaxis — occurs when any part of the nasal passages (which are richly supplied with blood vessels), throat, lower airways or lungs are injured to such a degree that blood vessels are damaged and blood leaks out. The commonest cause is a simple knock on the head, when alarmingly large amounts of blood may pour from one nostril. Such traumatic nosebleeds are usually self-limiting, but always consult your vet. Nosebleed are also common reason if the delicate nasal tissues are knocked inadvertently when a vet passes a stomach tube up from the nostril. Sometimes this is inevitable, particularly if the horse moves at the wrong moment, but the bleeding always stops. A moderate nosebleed, if accompanied by coughing, suggests a foreign body wedged in the nose or throat. Occasionally tumours somewhere in the respiratory tract or inflammation of the sinuses (sinusitis) will produce a trickle of blood from the nose. More serious problems include a progressive ethmoid haematoma, which is a lump that can grow inside the horse's nose. It is similar to a giant blood blister and is aptly described as a "bleeding polyp". It is a rare condition seen in around one horse in 2,500. Guttural pouch mycosis is the typical cause of repeated nosebleeds, unrelated to exercise or trauma, and is a serious condition that requires surgery to control the bleeding. Bleeding from both nostrils after exercise is most commonly due to an exercise-induced pulmonary haemorrhage. This happens when bleeding occurs from the blood vessels within the lung. Because the blood is coming up from the lungs, technically it is not a true nosebleed at all.

One of the main causes of nosebleeds is the OTC or prescribed nosesprays. They're used for colds and stuffed-up sinuses. These wear away the lining of your nose so the mucus and other gunk can flow out, but at the same time, it increases your chance for lacerations.

Other than that you should see your doctor. There are various treatment options available that may help stop your frequent nose bleeds. One of the simplest options is to cauterize the offending blood vessel(s) using silver nitrate. This can often prevent nosebleeds from ever happening again, or at least stop them for a while. Some medications can also contribute to an increased risk of nosebleeds. These medicines include blood-thinning agents such as aspirin, any type of anti-inflammatory, warfarin, clopidogrel and persantin. Again, talk to your doctor about this if you are concerned about it.

Nose bleeds often occur in people with high blood pressure, platelet disorders and other bleeding disorders. Your doctor should check you for these with a blood pressure check, a physical examination and blood tests (as well as looking in your nose!).

Good luck!

If you are taking anti-histamines or using nasal sprays on a regular basis, it could be over drying your nasal passages. You can use a saltwater spray (there is one called OCEAN) that you can use to help re-hydrate your nose. Also, try to increase your non-alcoholic fluid intake, that too may help with cellular hydration.
Try not to use the decongestant nasal sprays more than once every 24 hours, because they can really dry you out and make your nose bleed, as well as cause a re-bound effect where you will actually have thicker nasal secretions.
BTW, they homeopathic person sounds scary, I wouldn't try any of the things she said.

Go to an ENT specialist as it sounds as though your capillaries are breaking. That could be a result of something else like, sinusitis/allergic rhinitis!! Sometimes, simple nose bleeds are symtomatic of something else. You need to know if this is the case.

easy go to a doctor and ask for your nose to be quarterised, this is a process where the doctor like freezes in the inside of your nose a bit, and after a while (not long) it stops them (doesnt really hurt). I have had this problem before and it can be nasty.
