why didn't the first three answerers give me an honest thought out opinion, and instead resort to sarcasm and insults, isn't this what they often accuse believers of doing?

Tony, you have to understand how religious questions - especially those with God as the subject - appear to us atheists.

Imagine if we spoke with genuine reverence, and asked you serious and ponderous question about, the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Your attitude to the FSM is about the same as our attitude toward your God: we find the very idea ludicrous, and serious discussion about it laughable. So would you if we did the same about the FSM.

The most important point, though, is that ludicrous or not this stuff is seen as hugely important to you-all, and it impats everyone's life.

Imagine how you'd feel if your country went to war against another just because they didn't believe in the FSM. Terrifying, isn't it?

That's the sort of thing atheists have to watch every day: people treating this crazy fantasy with such importance that lives are in the balance.

Sarcasm is the best response to the mixture of amusement and horror we experience watching this stuff go on.

I thought Zero Cool (the first answer) gave you a very well-thought out and honest answer (like he usually does) with no insults and just a soupcon of sarcasm.

It's obvious that he just didn't say what you wanted to hear.

I'm not sure exactly what you are complaining about - just because the first two answers disagree with your point of view (the first one with a light touch of humor, and the second short and sweet), doesn't make them wrong.

However, I agree about the third answer - but considering this is Yahoo!Answers, I am not surprised that there aren't seven or eight smartassed posts like this...

At what point do either of them claim to have "superior intellect and reasoning"??? Not everybody is going to write an essay about their (lack of) beliefs.

I have seen sarcasm come from the religious and the non-religious. In this forum you are talking about the one subject aside from politics that will usually put peoples backs against the wall and make them defend what they believe. I've seen good answers given by atheists and agnostics, I've seen bad and the same thing with christians and other religious groups.

Taking a persons belief out of the picture, we are all human and human beings are very emotional creatures.

I found their answers funny and informative. Moreover, if you laughed more in life, you wouldn't come of as such a pompous prick with no sense of humour.

P.S - It is you that has the problem, not them.

The fact that you ask the same incoherent questions over and over and lack the intellect to understand the answers is you're problem.

They are perfectly fine answers. You obviously have to high of an opinion of yourself.

actually the first answer made a good point. a very good point.

you bash the atheists for choosing to not believe in something they can't define. yet somehow it's ok for you to believe in the same thing, even though you can't define it either.
