There are a lot of folks on here (Yahoo) that think being an agnostic means that you aren't a Christian....

Agnostic means that you're not against the idea that there may be a God, but aren't quite totally convinced either way. Most who declare themselves Atheists actually tend to fall into this catagory.

Atheists--the other side of the fence--beleive that there is no God in any conventional sense, perfering to place faith in logical and critical thought. Most require proof before beleif. Some only ask that a given idea makes sense (follows logic).

It's not unusual of one to waver back and forth between being Agnostic and being Atheist, but most Atheists seem to become Agnostic first--providing that they are coming out of another faith, such as Christianity (the most common religion in America) or Christianity's offshoots.

That said, it's highly individual how one reaches a given faith. Ask fifty people, and you'll get fifty answers. But the answer you're reading is mine, and I hope it helps.

Agnostic means not knowing.

There is a revelation. You either believe it or you don't. An agnostic has not made that choice.

Agnostics claim either that it is not possible to have absolute or certain knowledge of God or gods; or, alternatively, that while certainty may be possible, they personally have no knowledge.

Agnostics don't believe in any specific 'god". They hold the contention that any ultimate reality is god.

It means not knowing whether or not a god exists. It can be either 'weak agnosticism' which is the belief that the existence of a god is unknown but could be discovered, or 'strong agnosticism' which is the belief that the existence of a god is unknowable.

That you believe there is neither enough evidence for the belief in god/s or lack of evidence to suggest the existence of a god/s.

It means you KNOW for a fact that the existence of God can not be known. this gives you license to have a go at non believers and believers. And presume yourself to be taking the intelectual High Ground.
