One one hand, your friend speaks the truth. Taking laxatives a lot can and does cause you to lose weight, because it prevents you from absorbing the food that you eat.
On the other hand, that's a bad way to lose weight, because it can potentially cause serious health problems, like death. Using laxatives will stop you from absorbing the much of the stuff that makes you fat, but it will also stop you from absorbing the stuff that you need to live and be healthy.
If you really need to lose weight, you should talk to a doctor...or several doctors...about it. Using laxatives for that is a bad idea.

It doesn't sound very healthy, All those laxatives won't allow ones body to absorb the vitamins/minerals. I've tried psyllium husk for regularity but I don't think that'll help in weight loss. I'm not obese but I'm frustrated with weight gain. Everyone is different on what works for them in regards to weight loss.. .and everything else I guess. Since you brought up laxatives, I'm going into that subject. I recently did that infamous gross colon cleanse. The the water thing. yeah, gross but it cleans out the entire colos VS. just the lower part which is what laxatives do. Going through that process motivated me to eat better. Might be a step in the right direction for you. Check out the gross website under my "Know your source? List it here:"

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)
laxatives are vey harmful for your digestion system and can cause really bad problems
